What is your internet connection? If it is 56k or lower...sorry http://www.sharkyforums.com/ubb/frown.gif , forget it. Half Duplex Cable (cable receive, analog modem send) sorry, forget that too. Is it Full Duplex Cable or xDSL? Sure that is a viable solution,BUT, is it your only connection, and will your ISP freely allow you to run the server 24/7 without extra charges? Check into this before you begin sinking money into a server. Second, you will want to network the Q3A server to your play machine. If you have only one connection to the internet, you MUST network the two machines. The OS's you are using and the type of connection you have will determine the networking possiblities avaiable to you. Here you will need to do tons of research as well. Also, keep in mind that a single internet connection for your internet access AND your Quake3 server is not "Ideal" for you or prospective players on your server. Then, you should get/have/build a computer to run the "server" on. This shouldn't be the system you play on and it should be reliable enough to leave on and connected to the internet 24/7. Also, it doesnt even need a 3d graphics card to serve Q3A. Heck, if it is just going to serve Quake, you don't even need a soundboard. Put a clean install of you OS of choice on it and then install Quake 3 and put the Q3A 1.17 update on it. Next, if you are running a modification, install that as well. Put a shortcut to the Q3A executable on the desktop and add the command line arguments specific to the type of server you are running. (I use "C:\Program Files\Quake III Arena\quake3.exe" +set dedicated 2 +set fs_game q3f +exec q3f_server.cfg) Also, you will need a "server.cfg" file to store the settings for your server just like you use a "config.cfg" file to store the settings you use to play. You will have to do some research and learn the uses of all the settings. You can start that research here.. www.planetquake.com (http://www.planetquake.com) and www.quake3world.com/info/ (http://www.quake3world.com/info/) Hmm, I seem to have mistaken "quaver" for server LOL ! Did you mean server? [This message has been edited by BlackTriad (edited October 04, 2000).] Bateluer 10-05-2000, 10:16 PM first you must download it. I picked it up at voodooextreme, but they are down right now, try HardOCP.com. Unzip it and read the readme file place the files/folders in the right places. Then you will be able to run it the same as you would demo001/002. to run those demos open the console with the ~ key located next to the number 1. Type /disconnect /timedemo 1 /demo xxxxxxxxx, where 'xxxxxxxxx' is the name of the demo. In the case of quaver, type 'quaver' The demo should run automatically. I spent months searching the net before I found place that told me how to run the benches instead of check our results. ------------------ When Can I overclock a terahertz cpu? Lance 10-07-2000, 05:08 PM For some reason, and I don't know why, but when I type as you stated above, nothing happens.. well, it just goes back to the menu screen. I was in console, typed: /disconnect /timedemo 1 /demo demo1 It removed the console from the screen, then just sat there at the menu.. The same thing happened when I clicked on DEMOS from the menu and clicked play, it simply shot me back to the menu screen.
