Need to know a little sysinfo, but i think it is a video driver issue. I just started having the same problem. Only after 'upgrading' to the latest reference drivers for my Gforce 256. Maybe go back to older ones or install directX again.

I'm having a similar, if not the same, problem w/ NFS-PU & my Asus V6800. The game loads fine, and you get to the screen where you click "Race", and you get a repeated Revving sound as you get booted to a windows screen or see a frozen game screen. At this point the PC is absolutely hung dead and you have to do a hard reset or cycle the power.

I'm running on Abit KT7-RAID w/ a Duron 600, 256 MB RAM, SB Live Value, and Asus V6800 using the 375 build of the Asus drivers. I've checked the troubleshooting guide and have killed everything running on the box except Explorer & Systray, I'm running DirectX 7.0, and I have Windows managing Virtual Memory w/ 4 GB of drivespace on the drive where it is set to store VM.

I need to doublecheck that I'm running DirectX 7.0a vs. DirectX 7.0 (I'll be pissed if I missed that).

One note: I was able to get some improvement using the most recent Detonator3 drivers, but that amounts to about 15 seconds of driving before the game hangs.

Ha Ha
Wasn't a driver problem at all.
It was a driving problem.
I uninstalled the game and installed it again. No more problem. Must be a maximum number of races before the game washes out.
