I just recently purchased a machine and I have been playing DiabloII, but I was looking into the gaming market at first person shooters and RPG's and had no clue which were good? any suggestions?

FPS: Quake III, Unreal Tournament (with mods), Half-life (with mods - specifically Team fortress classic and Counter-strike) & Tribes 2 when it comes out..

RP: Baldors Gate II (have it - fun and popular), Icewind Dale (BG2 engine - also good), Online (Everquest - $ 10/month)

Hope that helps..

Hi.
I strongly suggest you should buy Unreal Tournament (The best game ever) and/or Half Life. Also, if you're interested in strategy, Red Alert 2 is a great game!

There's a new FPS that just came out called Rune. It's built around a modified U.T. engine and has very good graphics.
I just finished playing it and can give it the thumbs up.
There's a demo out if you want to check it out. If you do a search it should be pretty easy to find.

An excellent FPS/RPG hybrid is Dues Ex. Can't get much better unless you starting digging back to older Warren Specter games like System Shock 2 or Thief.

If you want a really good FPS, get Rune.

For RPG, I would say Balder's Gate II. BG's are really great. They are far superior to Diablo II in my opinion.

You can try the Rune Demo and see what it's like. It's produced by Human Head Studios.

Is Rune really a FPS? I know its based on the engine for UT which is a FPS.
First-Person-Shooter.
Rune is 3rd person I believe, and you use hand to hand combat weapons (no guns) so you don't really shoot.
Rune is more of a 3PH, 3rd person hand-to-hand.
I have no idea what my point is.

In fact, you can play it the way you want. Usually, 3rd person, but you can zoom in so it become a FPS. The only problem is you don't see your weapon in that position.

Try Crimson Skies. Since the 1.02 patch, it runs great. More an action game than a flight sim, but with a great storyline and incredible graphics. It's great fun.

Unreal Tourny is pretty good, but the game that I'm playing right now is Project IGI. Eidos did a great job on IGI.

Those two games must rank in the top ten on everybodies list.

I'm pretty partial to Delta Force: Land Warrior myself. It was released at 35 USD and may be even lower now.

The Voyager FPS was pretty good. It's a little short on the SP side though. Baldur's Gate 2 is a good RPG, but don't forget Planescape : Torment. I'm suggesting older games because a) they may cost less than newer ones and b) no one else mentioned these http://www.sharkyforums.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hope that helps!

My favourite Genre is FPS so here i my reccomendatons in this genre:
Dues Ex - One of the best games ever!
Half Life - does what it says on the box, halves your life.
NOLF - A very cool spy game with lots of great levels
Counter Strike - either as the mod or not, you need this
Q3 and UT are also very cool
Also for a limited game, but one you will constantly return to:
The Sims, the add on packs a bit pants though.

RPG's: Although it's not yet out, you can read about Wizardry 8 and see screenshots at www.sir-tech.com/wizardry8/index.html (http://www.sir-tech.com/wizardry8/index.html) and you can pre-order it at cdmag.com.
