Oh my freakin God, Tribes is the BEST online multiplayer game I've ever played. It's got huge outdoot levels, complete freedom to go anywhere you want, awesome weapons, lots of player classes and strategies, etc. It's a great game. You can probably pick it up for around $20 these days, I'd highly suggest it. I wrote up guide for it on a (now defunct)website I wrote for, so I've spent a lot of time looking at the game.

Damn, that's a tough one. I would have to say to get the first game and try it out, and if you like it you'll like the second one as well. Besides, it may be a while before Tribes 2 is out.

yeah, I would try and pick up the first one, but its really hard for newbies to catch on since the game has drastically changed over the last two years. So if you do pick it up and have a hard time getting into it, just wait for tribes 2 becuase we will all be newbies once again.

I saw Tribes at Best Buy for $9.99. It can't kill you to pick it up and try. Word of advice though: It is somewhat difficult for a newbie to pick it up (the jetpacks are a whole new way of playing) so don't get discouraged of at first you suck and have no idea what you're doing - and stick to BASE mods while you're learning. Avoid Renegades, Admin, Ultra anything and everything. Just play BASE until you get the hang of it. If you need any help just e-mail me and we can meet in IRC, find an empty server and I will teach you.

Its been out for awhile. I think its that price for good. I might be wrong, I do know i saw a copy of it for sale for like $15.

It's almost 2 years old. The price wasn't a sale price - just the regular price it's going for now. Pick it up - it's a steal! :-)

I also saw System Shock II there for $14.95, I came really close to picking it up, but I think it would be a better christmas present.

Well I got the demo running right now till I can buy it... It looks alot like cyberstrike/UT...

It's fun but your right about getting pushed around. So far I have killed a few peeps. But I still do not know about 95% Of why things work and don't work. And for GOD why is the favorites thing pissing me off. I can't seem to make it work or select anything with out selling the blaster???

Tribes is very unfriendly to newbies. If you have some friends that play it, or if you see a server with only a couple of people on it, hop on it and I am sure they will help you out.

Y'all are RIGHT when you say Tribes is tough on newbies. I got this game about a week ago ($6 at Best Buy w/ employee discount) and it's probably the BEST game I've played in a while. I'll warn anyone who's gonna get this game (or Tribes 2, i'm sure) - it's ADDICTIVE!!!!! I find myself joining some server, then before I know it 3 hours have passed..

It takes some major getting used to, but it ROCKS

Hard on newbies it is, but once you get use to it, you'll never go back to Q3A or UT. UT and Q3A is very similar, it's a fast paced shoot-em-up FPS. Tribes, on the other hand, does not allow you to do that (unless of course you are a heavy base-raping). It's more like accuracy, timing, strategy combined. Oh, one thing about the jetpack and how people fly high with it and you can't: jump, then immediately after jump press the right mouse button (it is advisable to leave the jetpack button as default).
