the only reason that consoles will never be
better than PC's is becuz they dont have to be, since generally pc gamers are serious gamers, they buy the newest hardware (RADEON, GeForce), have the fastest hookups to the internet (DSL, Cable) and they put alot of money into their hobby.
Console gamers arent hardcore gamers, they want their games to be simple and fun, u dont alot of Half-Lifes for consoles because the majority of console gamers are only kids, and wouldnt like those games (or understand them...) Now im only 12 and am an exception, <i have a fast comp, have a cable modem, surround sound speakers etc.> and to get this I had to save up for a year to afford this kind of hardware. Now why would Sony or Nintendo want to put out a console with a 1ghz cpu and cutting-edge video card when the retail would be around $1000. Why? u ask, because no one would buy them, console gamers dont want to pay that kind of money for gaming.
SO the bottomline, PC's and consoles have different audiences ie.
PC= harcore gamers
console= novice gamers

I'd have to disagree with your point about console gamers not being hardcore. I know some people who have spent more on consoles than almost anyone would spend on a computer. Also, there are some kinds of games that just don't repesent very well on PC's (I've yet to play a fighting game on computer that I've liked more than Dead or Alive on my Playstation). I agree that many PC gaming fanatics will go to higher extremes for their hobby but you can't discount the console games altogether; there's some real gold out there.
I don't want to start an arguement, just thought I should give my $.02 http://www.sharkyforums.com/ubb/smile.gif

Yeah, I gotta disagree with you also. You say console games are simple and for kids. Look at some ofthe Playstation games out there, Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill, Final Fantasy Series.... there are plenty of serious console gamers out there. I think the one thing consoles miss are the mod communities online. Just my two cents...

Im not bashing the console im just saying that when u compare specs on the PS2 with the latest high end PC, the PS2 doesnt compare at all. I love MGS, one of my favorite games, im just saying most of my friends are console gamers and they dont know anything about PC's. I meant hardcore by not the amount of time u spend on it, by how much u get into it, how much money u put into buying the newest video card like the ATI RADEON or GF2 and how u have fast connections to the internet, etc. Sorry if i made it sound like i hate consoles i jsut hate it when people say that the PC will die when the next-gen consoles come out (PS2 is already on shleves).

Yeah, like I said above, the pcs have an online community that live and die by the game. So many people take UT seriously, or Q3. Go onto a Q3 forum and say UT rules and everyone freaks out.. http://www.sharkyforums.com/ubb/smile.gif

Yeah, you have a point about the PS2. Straight hardware-wise, the PS2 isn't much to "ooh" and "ahh" over when compared to a PC. The real props go to developers. They know exactly what they're working with so they can pull some amazing stuff out of it. That's the primary disadvantage of PC hardware for gaming; developers have to cover themselves in order to run on lots of different hardware. In that light they deserve just as much props for making their work look as good as they do despite being crippled by folks like me with 400mhz and a voodoo2.
Peace.
