Am I the only one waiting on Team Fortress 2?

I haven't heard much on it lately and most of the sites I visit haven't updated in months. Is there anyone out there who has seen beta testing, more videos, etc....

I too have waited forever for this game release. The "release date" is stated as 3/01, but we all know their track record so don't hold your breath. I did find an interesting interview that was recently done about TF2. Some new things he mentions are a "commander" mode...which floats over the battlefield (similiar to spectator mode), as well as smoke grenades, foot prints left in dirt/sand, better body physics, etc.

Actually, I believe valve said it will be using its own engine. If someone has heard different then let me know. I know they were using the quake2 engine, but I thought I read where its using its own engine.

when they say own engine do they mean the half-life engine which is a modified quake2 engine anyway?

I believe it's a brand new engine. Don't remember where I read that but I remember reading something about them scrapping the current engine and using a brand new one.

Of course that sucks also. Just delays it longer..

Yeah, I believe they are using their own engine. also, if you read up on the half-life engine, 70% of it was re-written by them. or some sort of % was re-written. I know they have added a bunch of technology to it. I wish they would release some photos or movies or something like that.

lol yeah, I can picture that. I remember seeing some screen shots of it and it was looking rather good. I have read a lot of interviews and I guess they are going to classify it as a Real Time First Person Shooter. I guess the commander class is like playing a RTS game. I dunno, I just want an update to TFC or something.

Don't know if this has been stated because I didn't read all the above messages in this thread, but TF2 will be using a modified Quake 3 engine rather than it's own. If they switched to thier own engine, it would not be out for an even longer time.

BTW, What defines an "engine", anyway? I mean, If you start with a Quake 1 "engine" and then modify it enough, you will have a Half-Life engine. But is it still just a modified Q1 Engine or is it a new one? People argue and argue about what engine is a modified... you get my point.

TF2 was supposed to be out this last summer. However, they felt the graphics would look too dated so they bumped it from a modified Quake 2 engine to a modified Quake 3 engine.
