This costs $28.99 is it worth it? With it being a year late to compete with UT?! Are there any other FPS coming out apart from ofcourse Unreal 2?

Quake 3 Arena was the best Deathmatch game of all time for me. It's the most balanced(all weapons are useful in a fight), and most adrenaline injecting(it makes me go nuts while playing it). This game really takes off the stress of study daily before I sleep.

Unreal Tournament is very nice too but not as balanced, and not as nice in graphics. That's why Quake 3 Team Arena will do the things, that Unreal Tournament has, in the best way. It will offer better graphics and better balance and physics. I'm really anxious to try it, but since it's not a free add-on, people might consider spending money elsewhere. There are a lot of options these days, and there will be more(Tribes 2,TF2, Halo).

I gotta say that I've always thought Q3 had a better, more natural feel to me. Maybe it is because I played a LOT of Q3 before even trying UT, but i still prefer Q3. Oh well, I've since found Tribes and haven't done much other than play that for while now.

Nice of you all to reply, http://www.sharkyforums.com/ubb/biggrin.gif , but after reading about "Rune", which IS the next big game I am hoping, this is where my gaming aspirations lie! I've heard it uses the UT engine but instead of 1st person with guns its 3rd person with big choppas .. I mean swords and axes and that. Rune, yea man that sounds cool!

Damn straight! Checked out the demo last night, its wicked!
Combat system is tough, or maybe just to learn, but I like the challenge.

I don't see how you could call this add-on a UT like mod for Q3. ther are quite a few new styles of play and i have yet to see a "rune" or "tech" in UT. I am a big fan of the Classic CTF mod for Q3A and this add-on from id incorporates a lot of similar features as the Team Arena concept. a far cry from UT, but i like it that way. I haven't heard if id is including the grapple, which, IMHO was one of the best parts of Q2CTF and is in CCTF, i hope they included it in Team Arena.

Q3 definitely better than UT. Q3 has a much more natural feel to it than UT ever did. UT just never looked or felt as good as quake 3. Plus you can muck a lot with quake 3. You can turn your gun model off if you like, and just basically turn all the settings waaaaaay down to get better FPS if you want to. Q3 has my vote. Didn't like Q2 much for multiplayer though. Quake 1 was A LOT better for multiplayer, particularly quakeworld. I think that Q3 has much more of a Q1 feel to it than a q2 feel.....

Can't understand why some of you say that Quake 3 Arena is better than Unreal Tournament, because it's not! If you would sit down and try UT online for perhaps an hour you too would realize that it's the better game. Yes, I have tried Quake 3, and my conclusion is : "Can't even be compared to UT".
Here are some quotes from Gamecenter's Quake 3 Arena vs Unreal Tournament. Just one thing, there are 6 categories to be won, and they are : Story, graphics, weapons, bots, levels and multiplayer. Unreal Tournament wins all of the categories except for the graphics category which Quake 3 Arena wins.
Their final analysis :
"Now we come down to the final decision. We previously noted that graphics, although important, aren't as vital as gameplay. "

"The supporters of Quake III say that if you're looking for a deathmatch--and only a deathmatch--then Quake III is king. We don't argue with that. Quake III's deathmatch game is supreme, because it was designed for the twitch-action gamer in mind."

Here's my favourite part :

"That said, we're crowning Unreal Tournament the king. Why? You see ? UT is better than Quake 3. Anyway, I also think that the graphic and the deathmatch mode are better in UT. Yes, I've seen the graphics (Athlon 700, Geforce DDR).

So, just stop playing Quake 3 and play UT!

Hold on there - no runes in UT - what is the bonus pack for then? I'll admit i've never played Q3A even though (through a quirk of fate named 'Christmas present' (Thanksgiving?)) I have it (explaination? http://www.sharkyforums.com/ubb/tongue.gif133!) (must upgrade..soon) but you obviously don't know alot about UT either. I don't want to start a war but UT is more varied than Q3A.

i admit, i stopped playing UT last may. neither side of this argument can actually win or prove the oter side wrong because it is all based on opinion. My opinion is that i don't like the feel of the UT weapons. simple as that, i just don't like them. I prefer the feel of the weapons in Q3A. but that doesn't mean that i can't still enjoy UT. Actually i have played a few times since May, but not like i have been playing Q3. No one has the same opinion on everything so this is pretty much a moot point. my whole point was calling Team Arena a UT copying add-on, because it simply isn't. if you have read any previews on the game, you could see that. I am pretty sure i have this bonus pack that was mention, yet i see no evidence of runes or techs, please tell me where they can be found so i can see for myself.

Assault is a pretty cool concept, but it wasn't enough to keep me interested, and dominaion? please, glorified deathmatch. CTF is great, it is my favorite style of gameplay, but like i said, i find Q3 better for that. Regardless, your opinion is your opinion, but leave it at that, it is pointless to banter over the fact that you find UT better while I find Q3 better. We will get no where because i am not going to change your opinion, nor are you going to change mine. I have to agree.
I enjoy UT with its style of gameplay but tend to get bored with its weapons.
Q3A just has a good balance of both that I enjoy.

How can you get bored of UT weapons? Most of them have so many nuances and little tricks that are fun to learn. I can think of 5 different ways to shoot the UT rocket launcher:
-Single fire
-Multi rocket fire spread
-Multi rocket fire bunched
-Single fire homing
-Secondary grenades
And don't even get me started on the possibilities of Flak....

I don't think Quake3 plays nearly as well as Quake1 did. And the style of gameplay is quaint. It's too simplistic. Quake3 seems to have been designed for the Amish. I'm not saying it's a bad game. how can i get bored of the UT weapons? well for starters you mentioned the rocket launcher. well to me i don't care how many modes of firing a weapon has, if it sucks, it still sucks. the feel isn't right for me. i like the single fire Q3 rocket launcher a whole lot better, plus the funnest thing ever, a rocket jump. rocket jumps suck in unreal tournament. like i said before, the feel just ins't right for me, the games seems a bit off to me.

In Unreal Tournament there is the Impact Hammer jump! I think UT is better than Quake 3, that's my opinion though.

Quake3 is a great competitive game with alot of potential money if you get good and attend offical LANs. But I agree with what you said. I don't think this mod will be more popular than Rocket Arena III..and Rocket Arena III is free..

My 2 cents? Welllll..... I bought both Quake 3 Arena and Unreal Tournament on the day of release. After about a couple of months of playing both (to see which I prefer), Q3 is now in the loft gathering dust, and I still play loads of UT. To my mind, that says it all.

I´ve not been playing Quake III for a long time, since my computer is too slow to run it (but that will change in the near future). However, my computer is able to play UT with my old Voodoo 2 graphic card. My current conclusion is: both games are extremely cool. I don´t believe you can judge these two games as better. It is purely based on taste on certain factors that makes the games more enjoyable than the other. Everyone has different tastes and therefore you can´t brand a game as "better". Personally, I love Quake III with it´s adrenaline deathmatch and eye candy graphics. It´s a really cool game. Despite this, I believe that Unreal Tournament is just as cool in some ways, despite that Quake III parhaps got a more complex graphic system. Both games are worthy when it comes to the FPS genre. It´s as simple as that.

Just put on the demo of Quake 3 Team Arena. Anyone who buys this has been suckered. It is basically Q3 Arena with what should be a few mods tacked on - and they are charging money for this?????? Madness. If you want CTF etc, just get Unreal Tournament - it is out on budget now for a few bucks, and download all the mods you like. To actually try and sell this stuff as "new" is a rip-off.

Know the feeling..It's one thing to keep winning battles all the time. But it's a whole new thing to play team. I'm liking Tribes more and more everyday. Still hard as hell to shoot in the game. I'm 10 times better at UT than tribes.
