I'm going with Doom III. I trust Carmack. The unreal games are fun, UT blew Q3a outta the water, but Carmack promised that it would be more single player oriented. I'm expecting something revelutionary.

Yep Doom 3.
Especially if it has a single player.
Thats why I think both UT and Q3 sucked cause they had no single player story at all.

Ouch, not a single vote for Unreal2. I've never read anything about Doom3 as of yet, but I was a great fan of the original Unreal. It was the first game that actually started me on the track towards higher resolutions. But then, I was comparing it to quake2 http://www.sharkyforums.com/ubb/smile.gif In any case, if the Unreal series continues to put out as it has been doing, then it gets my vote*

I also trust John Carmack since Doom and Quake were ever invented. He has always done good and I am betting this will be no diff.
Doom III is my vote.
I also heard Quake 4 was being worked on kinda a semi-project with all Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Doom III going on they dont have much time yet.
I don't see why people are whining about UT and Q3 not being single player oriented. I mean with UT it's obvious, hence the "Tournament". You know it's not just going to be one player going through a shizload of levels killing monsters and demons like Doom. I've never even played Q3, so I can't whine about that.
I'm in the middle between Unreal2 and Doom3. They both sound like really good games, even though I've only seen screenshots of what Unreal2 is going to look like (none for Doom3 http://www.sharkyforums.com/ubb/frown.gif). Who knows...If the graphics in Doom3 look better (more human) than in the early Quakes and UT, then I might just go for that. The only thing I'd like to see in games is graphics similar to those in Final Fantasy: The spirits within. I think I'll leave my rants on that for some other time.

I've never played any of the Final Fantasy series. I guess I feel like I "missed" out now. I remember when the Dreamcast came out and I went and stood in line for them to release it at 12:00am, and almost half of the people were there because they were releasing Final Fantasy VIII or IX (Can't remember) too. I suck.

I hope they are not comparable !?
Doom was so good in its time because it scared the poo poo's outta me.
Unreal and UT was just so fluid and thought out.
I'm hoping Doom 3 scares me silly and U2 will probably have superior gameplay.
Not that I think is a similar comparison but people used to compare Doom and Duke Nukem. Thats just stoopid they are different games trying to do different things.

DOOM III !!!
I still play Ultimate Doom and Doom 2, regret not having Final Doom... but it's so perfect, those deamon sounds, the music, the enviroment, man that enviroment, reminds me of Alien... abandoned Mars bases, rooms filled with bodies... I used to be scared when i first played the demo... i was like 9 years old and the sound volume was way up... when the game begun, all those gun shots really got my attention... One of the best puzzle solving game of it's category... if the new Doom feels like the originals, it will kill any other game...

Legend is doing the game, don't worry there really good and it's under epics supervision. Personnaly Unreal killed Quake 2 in single player, and UT beat Q3 in multi. But forget all this U2 v. Doom 3 crap, I wan't Unreal Warfare, which Epic is developing..........wait scrap that I really really want HALF-LIFE 2 with a Counter Strike 2 mod, oh yeah.

Both games are gonna be expensive. Software + vid card + cpu + mobo. All will likely have to be upgraded to play them. Oh I know about the 30fps crap with DooM3 but do you really believe that? I'm getting a little sick of ID's constant array of indoor levels. Therefore I must pit my vote with U2 (not the band).

I personally think Unreal 2 is going to rock for different reasons than doom3. The platform that unreal will run on will be less intensive. The target for the game according to legend will be around a 500mhz machine that has t&l support. I don't agree almost all of the time on the minimum specs so probably around a 700mhz machine will actually be needed. Doom3 on the other hand will run like a dog on current video cards. Meaning that it will probablly require an upgrade before you can actually play it like it was intended to be. Yes that means spending $400 on the top of the line video card once again. The one I'm waiting for right now is Duke forever. Meaning that it will be forever before it comes out.

Unreal has to wide open beautiful environments, beautiful skies, smooth gameplay, etc. When I play Quake 3... I'm not sure why, but it feels like I'm controlling a 4 foot tall fat guy.

Not really... faster hardware drives better looking games, not the other way around. I don't think releasing a game that can't run on today's specs is going to magically mean we all run athlon 5Ghzs

So far I've found the Unreal games to be a lot more fun than ID games.
I loved Quake II, but 3 sucked, and Unreal was better than even QII
As long as these are games, and not just engine tests like Q3 was, I'll buy both of them.

The inventiveness and creativity of Epic squashes ID like a juicy bug. ID have the technical know-how, god knows, we all know that. But I really think their games are uninspired and somewhat bland. Wipe DooM 1 and 2 off that list of course. But The quake series of games have been a little bland up to date. Very simple environments, flat floors, flat walls, no outside environments, not even any eyecatching views that disappeared after DooM. Anything good made with the quake engines has been made by other development companies. But, in their defence, they are the creators of new technology and their games are constantly compared to games years newer than their titles are, so they ARE going to be better.
How much did Q2 predate Unreal by?????
Legend made the Wheel of Time game using the Unreal engine as it was then (keeps getting better). WoT was a very good game, although NVIDIA based cards still struggled a little with the engine simply not being designed for them at all. I really hope that the U2 game FIXES this, I'm sick of it. But, WoT was very thoughtfully designed and good varying environments. Don't worry, Legend know the Ureal Engine backwards by now. Plus the water effects in Unreal are the best I have EVER seen in a game to date!

I personally think Doom3 will dominate in single player, however, in multiplayer I think ut2 will dominate.
