I play internet games online and have seen people with -1 pings. When the person was asked how he does it, he would not say. Some-how he can have his ping time masked to what he wants you to see, either less or more than it really is. I just want to know has anyone seen or heard of this and which OS supports the ability to do it?
I currently am running a dual boot win2000 & winME.

the only thing i can think off is something that sends an ICMP message with what ever data you want instead of a real ping response. One guy I know made it to deliver a message "no response from the host" as if he's not even online. But if you have a lan explorer or some kind of sniffer, youc an see it all :)

As I noted in the other forum you posted this in, the Half Life engine actually has a console command that lets you set what you'd like your ping to appear to be to others. I've only seen it once or twice, listed in MOTD on an HPB server, and is apparently used mainly by LPB's to make themselves look like HPB's. There is really no benefit it making your ping show up as -1, and he was probably just doing it to try to impress the ignorant.

Sketch, you're talking about fakelag. It doesn't work the other way. You can add lag to your ping, you can't decrease it.

Chances are, that person was running some type of proxy software that captured the packets before they left his/her connection, then edited them.. why? Because if the packets are captured, they can be scanned and edited on the fly. Like an auto-aimer. This isn't really possible for Half-Life, well it is, but they go to great links to void that with their CRC checking, but it is possible I guess.

Anyway, chances are, that person was cheating their llama *** off.

This has been another 2¢ post from the people that brought you other useless posts and products of other needless things for daft individuals.
