I'm not kidding, either. This may not be the most appropriate post for this forum, but I think everybody should be able to see this. http://www.finalfantasy.com

This is the theatrical trailer to a new movie by Columbia Pictures and Squaresoft, LTD (the makers of Final Fantasy the video game for Playstation). It is an entirely 100% 3D generated movie, and I have to say, it looks better than real life. I am speachless, and I'm sure you will be, too. However, when you remember how to talk again, please respond to this regarding what you think.

There is a downloadable copy here. http://www.thegia.com/movies/ffmovie/ffmoviemedia13.html

Trust me on this one: you will be amazed, and those of you who aren't completely current on the marvels of today's 3D rendering techniques will very likely sh*t their pants. I for one plan on being there opening night. http://www.sharkyforums.com/ubb/smile.gif

Yeah...I almost sh*t myself when I saw the movie poster for Dungeons & Dragons the movie, and i don't mean this in a good way! ROFL! It's got Jeremy Irons in it...I don't know what he was thinking...wow I can't wait to see the scrubs in line for this blockbuster movie. I really can't believe someone thought it would be a good idea to make filth like D&D into a movie. This ones gonna flop harder than Tom Arnold on the olympic high dive.

If Star Wars II is as bad as Phantom Menace, then I wouldn't doubt it. http://www.sharkyforums.com/ubb/smile.gif

At least the Final Fantasy movie decided not to include a Jar-Jar type character (I guess Moogle would be the Final Fantasy equivalent) with the key phrase "Me-suh gonna die?" http://www.sharkyforums.com/ubb/tongue.gif

The trailer is smooth. Hopefully the movie will be, too. If there is a good story to go along with all of those eye-shattering graphics, then its going to rock.

i saw the grinch last night and the FF preview played as well as the D&D(which ive seen before). Although i did almost sh1t my pants when i saw it, i was dissapointed by what i saw. The plot didnt seem like a final fantasy plot. It seemed more like a Heavy Metal plot if you ask me. Last night i was thinking about Final Fantasy(in a HUGE fan) in 3d and how the series has just gone to hell since theyve made it 3d. I havent played ff9, but it looks like a nice game. I was thinking about if Square made a "final fantasy classic" where it was classic 2d, but it would have 2d graphics that would make you sh1t yourself(on x-box mabee??). All the classic ff stuff could be done that couldnt be done in 3d(just play ff5 and youll see what i mean). Hell, i might even contact square for a suggestion and make a petition thing to see how many people would like it.

Well, I'm a pretty big Final Fantasy fan myself, and I think they are doing the right thing with the Final Fantasy movie. I don't think the traditional Final Fantasy plots would really make a lot of sense in a movie.

I have played every single Final Fantasy game, including all 3 FF Legends. I have even played FF2, FF3, and FF5, which were never released to the US. And, I have to say that right now I am playing FF9, and it's the best of all of them. If you want 2D looking settings (yes it's in 3D, but the art is very 2D looking), as well as the traditional FF plot, you will definately like FF9. I suggest you play it first before you start your petition. http://www.sharkyforums.com/ubb/smile.gif

It also has a lot of past characters, including Antlion, Matoya, and Garland (bet you never thought you'd see these characters again). Another important thing is the character development, which was really starting to lag in FF7 and FF8. The good news is that in FF9, it's back to the way it used to be, with characters that are very easy to get along with. If you are a fan of the old school FF, then you should try FF9.

Now this is completely off topic, and I appologize, but I felt I needed to respond to Zombor. Thanks for the patience.

Those PSOne's are pretty cheap, you know. I think you can get one for $89US these days.

If you want to emulate, though, the best one out there is Bleem!. However, even that doesn't emulate 100%, so I would spring for the PSOne to get the full experience. http://www.sharkyforums.com/ubb/smile.gif

You and me both http://www.sharkyforums.com/ubb/smile.gif I don't remember the last time a CPU could jump 100MHz "just like that". It seemed to have plenty of headroom left in it. And the way it's designed it's supposed to be frequency friendly.

Glad to be back. Yep, that's me alright. It was a Halloween thing but it's over now. There are other pictures lurking around on the site or in the about us section.

Not in the slightest. I was looking through the still frames myself, and it is interesting the effects they use, like motion blur and solarize. Also, the closeup of the guy at the end is amazing how real it looks. Also, if you look at still frames near the end of the trailer, you can see a lot of hidden frames that you don't notice when it is running. Just about everything is cool in that trailer.

BTW, if you happen to notice "ERAU QSSI DLRO WEHT" anywhere in the trailer, that would have significance to a true Final Fantasy fan. http://www.sharkyforums.com/ubb/wink.gif

Here is a quote from scifi.ign.com
"This is an interesting time for makers of computer-generated movies. Disney has pretty much established that feature-length computer-animated movies can work, (think Toy Story, Toy Story 2, A Bug's Life, and most recently, Dinosaur), but to date, no one has managed to tell a story with human characters entirely in CG. At least not on the big screen."

Here is a quote from www.rpgamer.com (http://www.rpgamer.com)
"The Final Fantasy Movie is currently being produced at Square Honolulu. It will be completely computer generated and is due for release in 2001."

Here is a quote from www.thegia.com (http://www.thegia.com)
"Cameras designed to capture human motion and translate the data into computer-based movements, Silicon Graphics Octane workstations, and more specialized equipment are all being used to deliver a movie with "photo-realistic" computer generated characters."

A quote from here: http://www.animationartist.com/upcoming/Fantasy/fantasy.html
"All the stops are being pulled out for Final Fantasy: The Movie, which will be 100% 3D computer animation."

Hope this convinces you. If you use a search engine to look for "Final fantasy movie 100% CG", you will see much more evidence as well. This looks very exciting. http://www.sharkyforums.com/ubb/smile.gif

I agree with some people about it not being of a final fantasy plot. Looks like they stapled the name to a NICE computer effects movie so us ff freaks would flock. Sure, final fantasies have been space/future oriented but not like this. I doubt that this movie will have one sword/blade in it. Not to say that this movie wouldn't kick, but i dun think that it'd be final fantasy'ie. http://www.sharkyforums.com/ubb/smile.gif coming from loyal ff fool.

I couldn't find it in the trailer... I was just saying that it might have been cool, since this is a phrase any true pre-Playstation Final Fantasy fan would recognise. http://www.sharkyforums.com/ubb/smile.gif

I think as an Easter Egg, it would have been cool to include it in a frame somewhere. But who says they didn't in the actual film http://www.sharkyforums.com/ubb/wink.gif.

its nothing too surprising in japanese standards. But then, they're always ahead (and I mean AHEAD) of us westerners by a few years when it comes to graphics and technology. I'm very impressed though, see the hair on the girl? it moves with the wind with pure realism. Like every strand was programmed independantly.

anyway, is there a way of saving the file on my hdd? I wanna keep it for reference.

I provided a link in my first post to a downloadable version. You can save the one from www.thegia.com (http://www.thegia.com) to your HDD.

Or, just go into your temporary internet files and copy and paste the file from there into another directory.
