I kinda gave up on 24/7 gaming last with Daoc went back to AO then recently just stopped playing online games all together. I have played UO and AC for years and kinda have given up on RPG's. My friends say I want to much from an MMORPG but I kind of equate it to buying a rig from Gateway or the like. They offer you cr*p at high prices but then you learn to build your own. Too bad that does not work with RPG's. So to get back to the point of this post, does anyone know of any revolutionary MMPRPG's on the horizon? I played Warcraft III, I know it is a RTS but a friend got into beta so I tried it out. The only RTS I ever got addicted to was Total Annihilation; for some reason I just loved it and played it forever and still do at times. My only hope it looks like for RPG is World of Warcraft I love the graphics but looks like same tired content. I say this about most RPG's before they come out then I get addicted to lvling, pk a bit then, usually sell on Ebay. I think it is the natural evolution of most things, but if some game company could integrate various genres RTS/MMORPG/FPS, to a limited extent, into a title it would increase the life of playability. Each genre servers a purpose and could be utilized to enhance a certain facet of any MMORPG. Hopefully all these delineations will disappear in the future. I know that it is hard enough to make a pure RPG game and that they have to make their games able to run on a PII and the like, but it seems gaming has used graphics as a crutch and gotten away from ingenuity and evolving content (especially high-end content for hardcore gamerz which IMHO would be the people you want to please the most in the long run). Each genre that people currently use to classify games all will some day be integrated, I hope, into what people will simply call "A d*mn good game." Each genre is a tool that game developers should use to sculpt a well rounded, interesting game. I look back over the games I played and take certain things away from each. In the RTS games I loved the ability to micro manage resources, learn techniques and to fight a large number of people a day. When I go back to RTS games it is nice to know that you have required a skill like riding a bike and you go back to being uber in no time. You also feel the ease of not having to look for groups, restock and keep pace lvling with your friends. Not having to kill the same mob till your eyes bleeds is kinda nice too. Then, on the other hand, MMORPG's give you a sense of community and pride in a high lvl character. You have something that you have built and can identify with (you can also sell for $$$). However, the closest you come to learning any skill is trying to be good at pvp. I think that pking in AC was a blast but in truth did not take much skill. Yet if you married an RPG with some kind of FPS, atleast for pvp, you could have something to improve in. Well I think people, hopefully, get my jist and I hope someone says I have missed some game to be released at such and such date but I think not any time soon.

Well, as far as I know, Endless Ages is the first FPS MMOG that I have encountered. It's just strange, but that's the allure of it. It's currently still in Beta, but you can download the client and signup and play beta now at www.endlessages.com. The devs seem really cool, and it's just a breath of fresh air to have a massive online game that doesn't require downtime or leave your character's fate determined on a dice roll. I say give it a try. I too have had a long experience with MMORPG's. It started with The Realm, way back when. Then I was a beta tester for EQ. Played that for several years before switching to AO and AC. I still think that AO had the most potential, but have found that way too many whiners are saturating the game.
Come over to EA. Maybe you'll see my frog Billy flying around. Make sure you say hi. I'll probably drop a load of cash on ya. It's very easy to come by. And also, don't forget that this game is currently in Beta, and though it's probably one of the most stable Beta games I have ever played, not all the content has been added. So save your final judgement for release. See ya.

If you're looking for a FPS merged with an RPG, the game Neocron is the one to look out for. It's supposed to be Deus Ex merged with RPG elements.
Or, Project EVE is a cool MMORPG set in space. Or Planetside, which is the first MMOFPS :). Where's Snoop Dogg? I'm sure he can you loads about THAT game ;).

Hey it's like crack for me :D. I love it, but of course, I don't have much to compare it with, I've never really played any of the other MMORPG's much. I played Dark Age of Camelot a little, but I got uninterested as I'm not too much into fantasy; I wanted a sci-fi setting and Anarchy Online was perfect for that. :)
That's kewl Snoop you finally getting cable? ;)

So I hear its like crack. My friend said you need to play 6 hours at least to get anywhere each day. He also said that 14 hours was his average playing on the weekends   . That game is crazy. I have heard storys of people staying up 24, 36 and even some guy in the military I know stayed up for 48 hours straight! How can you do that? 6 Hours of FPS gaming is alot for me at one time. 8 Hours max each day I can stand. I think that game does have some crack coming out the CD-ROM drive burning off the disc when you play it because only drugs allow you to stay up that long LOL.
Yes I am getting cable lol :). Originally should have had it working by now since I already got the cable installed and bought my own modem all they had to do was register my *bleep bleep bleep*'n MAC address but, NNNNNNNOOOOOOO they tell Snoop he has to wait 15 days for a tech support to come by and install absolutely nothing and instead have him call to register the MAC address. Tell me does that make you angry too? LOL

LOL :D Yeah you can end up spending some crazy time in that game, but I'll tell, it's better than most MMORPGS because of one reason; generated missions. In Everquest, for instance, to lvl up u have go and fight monsters FOREVER....or do outside quests that require huge groups of people...this takes time to organize, etc. Anarchy Online HAS all of the above mentioned, but in addition, it has user requested spawned missions that range as hard as u want it. So lets say, today, you only have time to play for an hour....do just that! Go in, and request an easy mission....and you'll be done pretty quickly :).....
Yeah, my cable modem company sucks soo much it's not funny. I hate Rogers@Home, worst service in the world. When it works, it's great, fast....but it doesn't work so often lately....

Sorry I didn't see this post earlier :)
I have been checking out Neocron as you my friend and that game is sounding like Dues Ex in the FPS world !!! It sounds pretty sweet although its been in beta testing for a year now. I guess the longer then better (as far as reliablity and fun factor goes not to mention tweaking things as good as you can before release and having patches do the rest).
Project Eve looked phat also but I haven't checked it out much except for its background and the insane graphics engine ;).
As far as PlanetSide the first MMOFPS game is concerned, your *BLEEP*'n right! Ask me anything you need to know and I got it on lock. I have read every interview via Mags/Internet (spent hours finding articles and interviews back during mid-2000 til now :D!) and pretty much got it on lock thanks to there official forums clearing all my questions up. I can now call myself a Pre-PS Zealot :D.
Graphics? Halo? Hah...not even close Halo is like a crumb to its engine. Dont believe me? I know you dont because its too hard to believe without seeing. So see for yourselfs guys :D http://gamespot.com/gamespot/filters/products/screenindex/0,11104,437493,00.html

Sweet sounds cool man I am dying to try out Anarchy Online. Everyone says its better (according to magazines and some Game sites) but just lacks stability and had alot of problems from launch that are mostly fixed but still being worked out. When it gets fully stable (around June) then I think I will buy the game and give it a whirl. In the meantime I will probably just try the trial.
Roar! I feel you when you say Rogers is the worst. I feel the exact same way about ATTBI :). They suck. They capped the speeds at 1.5Mbps in which whenever a ISP limits you to a speed you can only get below it at tops. Its going to suck hard when I get my service back and find out I lost 60% of my original daily speed :(. What speeds do you get and does Rogers limit you?
BTW the roar thing was just for the hell of it ;)

Yeah man, I mean it's still got a couple of issues, but overall, Anarchy Online has improved SO much. I remember when it first came out, it was pitiful; I saw it at my friends house and dismissed it immediately. Btw, you don't need to buy the game :), all you need to do is download the CD from www.anarchy-online.com 's website, or EVEN (According to Anarchy Online and Funcom), all you need to do is BORROW someone's else's CD. They don't need you to buy the cd at all, just pay for the monthly service. I think that's great! :D So you can just download it off their website and burn it onto cd. Can't beat that! ;)
Rogers has it capped at 3Mbps, although fat chance that it will normally reach that speed during the day.... :( But during night, after peak hours, I can easily reach 400 KB/s (kilo-bytes, not kilo-bits LOL). Of course that depends on where I'm downloading from and such, but you know what I mean. :)
Growl. K, my growl was pathetic to your roar man...... ;)

Hell yes you can't beat that! I mean how many MMOG devs encourage you not to buy the CD and waste your money...huh that is very rare. Just watch with PlanetSide they are going to charge $40 for the game I know it lol. Sounds sweet bro and with getting a job soon I will really look into this game!
Not to bad mate...I thought all Canadian ISP's were capped at 8-10Mbps (btw yes I know my Mbps and MBps :) <-------hardcore techie)?
What about your pings how are they? Min, Average, Max?
All in all I am capped at half your speed (ATTBI *BEEP* You!) even though I used to easily get 3-4Mbps during Peak Hours (yes I said peak!) it was that good before @Home died. The lowest I ever got would be 1.5-2Mbps now I am capped lower then that :(. During off hours or non-busy hours I used to get up to (dont wet yourself) but 6-8Mbps. Yep it purely maxxed out my USB connection theoretcial speed and almost all the time if I didn't manage my bandwidth below 5Mbps it would crash Windows 98 it would go so fast that my harddrive just said "Kaput" since windows sucks. Windows 2000 changed that though :). But sadly since @Home is dead so is my speed. Now its at a pathetic 1.5Mbps and in the future all there is, is Tier pricing and so pretty much things will never be the same with ATTBI again. They are as good as dead to me now and I am waiting for Charter to get there act together so I can switch to them. Anyone with a cap 1.5Mbps or lower and being a Cable ISP deserves to have Osama Bin Ladens men sicked on them :).
Thanks, I have been working on my Roar for along time....check this *cough* Clears throat *cough*
Okay I am insane so sue me lol. Anyways like the Bulldog used to say "My bark is worse then my bite"

I have played them all. If you want a FPS type MMORPG get Necron, cuz seriously, Endless Ages is horible. I am not kidding you when I tell you that it is a game made by like 5 guys in thier basement or something, and the world is like 1/10th the size of Anarchy-Online. I think they just made the game, hoped people would get addicted, and basicly live off it for a while.
If you were to go with a normal MMORPG I would get Anachry-Online. Simple fact is that its HUGE. If you can live through bugs, and patchs then youll love it. Also you can costomize your character beyond any other mmorpg ever could. List goes on and on, but I have to say, if your gonna pay for something by the month, Get AO :)
