I love it. YYYEEEESSSSS!!!!!!!! I'm so happy!!!!!!!! It has finally been anounced that the FF series are going to becoming to GBA and the GameCube. Go to this link. http://www.nintendoweb.com/news/0302/008.html Well if you didn't go I will put what you missed:
Naysayers get egg on their face... Square will bring Final Fantasy to BOTH the GameCube and the Game Boy Advance this year.
Most people thought it a safe bet that Square would develop for Nintendo's systems again after Yamauchi retired. Others thought that Square would NEVER develop games for a Nintendo console again. Well, according to Reuters and many other sources, the former turned out to be half right, Square is indeed developing games for Nintendo again, but before the retirement of Yamauchi! Even more surprising, Final Fantasy titles are on the way before the end of the year that will likely make use of the GameCube and GBA link cable!
There is an even stranger part of this story... do you remember the news some months ago about the fund Yamauchi set up to aid newly formed companies? Well, Square is starting up a new company to do the development of the at least two new Final Fantasy games and is receiving a portion of this money.
The real source of this news was an announcement today by Nintendo themselves. This is real news folks, this is no BS and definitely no joke. No specific titles have been announced yet, but the statements about the link cable and the newly formed company make me think that we can expect brand new FF games rather than ports. I'm sure we'll get more information about this very soon. But one thing is clear, it is a real good day for RPG fans!
And GameCube fans!!!!!! Im so happy

Finally the long dispute between SquareSoft and Nintendo is over! I can't wait to see how FF looks and performs on the Gamecube :D.

And the new Final Fantasy game is going to somehow able to work with the GBA using the link cabele. I wonder how that is going to work.

Final Fantasy Unlimited? If this new game is nething like the new anime in Japan right now called Final Fantasy Unlimited, then this game is gonna be pretty "kiddy". Whelp, thats ye old Nintendo for you tho.
Supercharged
03-16-2002, 10:24 AM
Why do you think it's going to be "kiddy"? Do you understand japeneese? Have you watched the anime series? Do you know that they are porting FF Tactics the GBA. Obviously you are a Sony or a Microsoft fanboy cause you dont know what the hell you are talking bout.

Actually you have no clue who you're talking to. Yes I can understand and speak Japanese, yes I am a freak. And a anime freak at that. And yes I've seen over half the anime series alrdy (ep 14+ has yet to be released in Japan). And everyone (yes everyone) that I have spoken with about FFU the anime says that it will most likely make a kiddy game. I have nothing against Nintendo, but only thought it was humorous that FFU would be one of the first Square games for the Nintendo considering Nintendo's history.
BTW for those of you who came to this thread for content... I got it verified. Yes FFU the game is based off FFU the anime. So in my opinion (I'm entitled to that right?) don't get your hopes up for this game.

Well do you understand this? a;djf;aksjdf;sajfd. Sike. Let me stop. Ok. Well it's not going to be a kiddy game cause Nintendo wouldn't allow it. Think if they wanted Square to come back who would they target fist? The older gamers duh. They already have the youngins locked in their grasps. So no too bad for you. It is going to be a rpg, and it's not going to be kiddy. So there you happy!

Lord! Will the both of you stop? :p Nintendo has changed their policy considerably since their previous console. They are allowing companies to make more mature based games without Nintendo's absolute control. Resident Evil, for example.
So, if Final Fantasy "Unlimited" (if that's what they're going to call it) turns out to be a "kiddy" game, it WON'T be due to Nintendo's doing....it will have been a decision from Square itself.

Actually there are 2 realy cool characters in the anime. 1 bad guy and 1 good guy. Almost none of their story is told yet. But basically the good guy is nicknamed "Kaze" (means wind) by the two main characters (who r children). The good guy seems pretty vital to the story however. Obviously cause he keeps geting resurrected and he is the source for the summons in the anime. Basically he has a metal tube covering his arm that "dissolves" and forms into a "demon gun". From here he chooses 3 bullets of diff colors and inserts them into the gun and fires aka summons a uhh Summon. So far this char is pretty cool. The other guy is pretty similar except he controls a sword thru telekenesis and uses flasks of liquid which r cut to cast spells. Cept he's not the main bad guy. More like a wandering mercenary (the main bad guy is a child).
So hopefully the game will be based on one of these 2 characters. And if it is may be a bit more than the "anime community" is expecting.

Square and Nintendo both had a falling out, for a few reasons. The first, was Nintendo's decision to abandon the CD-addon for the SNES. The second, was Nintendo's decision to limit cartridge sizes for cost purposes. Square wanted more to work with, Nintendo wouldn't budge. They cited how Square was able to pull of great feats with Final Fantasy III/VI on a SNES cartridge, so a cartridge size 10-15 times the size of SNES cartridge should have been fine.
Third, Square and Nintendo had arguments over artistic and content control. Nintendo saw the pre-alpha Final Fantasy 64 and liked the format of the characters. Square, afterwards, decided perhaps they wanted more grown up looking characters. Nintendo disagreed.
Nintendo also wanted control to oversee the content of the game. Squaresoft wanted to add more "adult" themes into their games and Nintendo simply refused. No negotiation, simply a refusal. I guess Nintendo was just a little headstrong after their immense success with the SNES and they felt that whatever decision they made, it would fly with everyone.
So, Square, just a little ticked off at Nintendo, especially having brought Nintendo major revenue (Final Fantasy II and Final Fantasy III were HUGE SNES system sellers), they decided to go to someone else who would respect them a little more. Sony was the first, namely because by this time, the Saturn was already showing signs of inherrent failure. Having CD-technology was also a huge bonus.
Ironically enough, Final Fantasy VII WAS censored when it came to North America.
Anyways, this was not a Nintendo bashing session, I still am a very strong supporter of Nintendo and I believe they are learning from their mistakes, slowly but surely. :)
First thing they need to do is force Yamauchi to retire (President of Nintendo). Whenever that guy opens his mouth, sheer madness ensues. :D
By the way, Supercharged, if you're even bothering to read this, I'm going to state this again, even though it's been stated a few times now and you keep ignoring it.

Squaresoft isn't owned by Sony; they merely have a partnership with them. Sony has agreed to produce CG films (including, of course, Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within) for Squaresoft, which makes games for the PS2. :)

Sony bought shares of Square (I think they own 19% of Square stocks), but they aren't the majority share holder. This will act like a sort of dog leash, so Square has to always tell Sony what they are planning to do before they do it. Even if Square wants to make a game on a console that's not by Sony.
