Hey TAZTG even though my case stays normally closed and has no window I have a question for you.
The plastic tubing you have on the power cables is something I have been looking for, where can I purchase some?
If you noticed I have my cables as neat as is possible with out the tubes, but they would make my rig oh so nicer :)

I purchased the Split Loom from Trak-Auto. They had lots of colors. Radio Shack carries black.

The heat tubbing does make the inside look more professional but I noticed a lot of people can take it a little too far. You should be able to tuck your cables away without needing the tubbing. Covering power cables with tubbing is really useless seeing that the normal 4 wire leads give air flow less resisance than a tube the same width but much more surface area. Its real easy to do in those sx1000 cases too.

Not bad, but the fan in that's getting replaced with a 50CFM thick Delta 60mm and I'm adding an 80mm 50CFM Sunon to the vid card cooling spectrum.
Not to mention that I have a 92mm Tornado waiting to for me to slice up my case and mount, along with another 60mm Y.S. Tech waiting to get mounted.:p
Edit: These two little guys will be pumping out another 80CFM to add to my vid card cooling, once I reverse them (which I'll be doing once I mount the 92mm tornado) giving me a total of 180CFM on the vid card.

No thats just the angle of the picture. they are about 7mm apart and if you notice the reason they are sticking out so far is there is a highspeed 80mm fan blowing cool air directly on and around them. and if you take a look below
http://www.actvsdei.com/~wurm/outside.jpg
the digidoc 5 is monitoring the temps of my whole system ;)
my case temps are 27 to 28°c and my CPU runs around 51°c full load running SETI. I just ordered a

fbs1992

Wurm that coolermaster doesnt do to well. it works wonders if you have a T-bred because they run hotter and the heatpipe doesnt really have much of an effect until temps start to get high. I would suggest something else. Tt volcano 7+, Thermalright AX-7, or SLK-800 for overclockin
Nope I did days of research on the latest HSF and the Coolermaster clobbered the Tt volcano 7+, and considering Im putting a 92mm fan on it... I don't think I'll have any problems at all ;)
(I am/was interested in the volcano 9, but no one has seemed to test it yet....)

Wurm, you should consider changing fan adapters to one with better air-flow. The funnel-styled adapters if anything lose airflow.

Thanks, it's an 8K3A+ (see site for details). My case has looked like this for quite awhile, I just thought I would add it to the new forum. I do not plan on painting my drives; I do however plan on stealthing them shortly (I know I've said that a million times). Also water-cooling and new upgrades will be in order soon as well. :)
Yes that's a magic 8-ball, and there is a lights-out cube hiding up there as well. Keep up the great modding yourself, as I've said before you do top notch work. Good Luck :)

The PC-70 is so big, that when I put it under my desk it sticks out too far! When I actually start using the heater (it gets so cold up here) I will definitely move it.

Hmm, 1600x1200, 22", flat, I run it at 1240x1024 w/ 100Hz ref rate. Anyways, I'll have to let my dad have it for cad stuff, and I'll take him 17" sony flat screen to college.

Things you cant see are my zip drive 2 external hdds and my scanner along with my second monnitor zip is some where by sub and hdds hiding behind cup on second shelf. No case mods for my baby the first one because the case is just to cool without any and i need a processor and vid card in it. the thing about a LOT of the S3 cards is that they have to be set to be the primary monitor in the BIOS - which means two things:
1) your bootup and DOS screens will all be on the PCI card
2) if you're NOT running a Win2k/XP system (although i think you are running win2k, IIRC), then your primary adaptor in Win9X will be the PCI card; which means all games, apps, etc, will default to using the PCI video card. also, you won't get any display on the second monitor until the OS boots up.
if you don't set it as the primary, win2k won't properly initialize the card, and Win9X won't give you the option. to be fair, though, this is not endemic of ALL pci cards - there are quite a few that can exist quite easily with the AGP set as primary in the BIOS (i believe Matrox's millenium series are one example).
[edit]
note that if you DO get dual monitors working, Win2k/XP will let you CHANGE which adaptor is the primary - so if you get it working on bootup then you're more or less set to go ahead with dual monitors.
also, many programs won't save multi-monitor info on exit - which means that if you set it to stretch across the monitors, it won't remember the settings on restart, nor will it open up at the same spot as you closed it, etc etc. win2k also has a known issue where if the two (or more) adaptors are running at DIFFERENT bit depths, desktop/start menu icons will be in 256-color mode ONLY (no hi-color). also, you can't stretch the main toolbar across the monitors without a dedicated program like Ultramon (although Nview / ATI Desktopmanagerthingy might do it for you).
the two biggest issues with multimonitors that i've found are:
1) if your monitors are too close and not properly shielded, their coils will cause interference with each other - flickering edges, discoloration, etc. as far as i can tell it's nothing permanent, but it's annoying and there's nothing you can try save using different refresh rates when possible, spacing the monitors out (at least, say, 5-6 inches), or getting some ferrite material (like Mu-Metal) to block the interference.
2) some games/apps are NOT properly coded to deal with multi monitors (at least in win2k, on my system). Some examples are GTA3 PC, Civ3 (to some extent), and No One Lives Forever (although the Lithtech engine is so damned buggy that it may just be instability on my system's part). Some symptoms include:
distorted display on the secondary monitor when the primary switches resolutions
if you move the mouse all the way to an edge in the game, it will NOT stop at the edge of the game screen. it will instead go onto the extended desktop, and if you inadvertently click you'll minimize the game and have to click back into the game
video playback may freeze (civ3 on occasion). this is especially apparent on video playback with SVCDs or sometimes Divx - if you drag them to different monitors it will either stop playback or corrupt the video stream.
the game will attempt to initialize on the secondary monitor instead of the primary, then give you an error message
again, this isn't endemic of all games/apps. Paint Shop Pro and Mozilla are apps that work just fine with multimonitors (IE6 doesn't save all of the multimon info though - it'll save position but not screen size if you stretch it across monitors). TES:Morrowind and Fallout Tactics properly capture the mouse driver so you don't get issue #2. Once you enable Litestep/Multimonitor support in winamp, it correctly saves multimon information. AOL instant messenger actually works pretty much perfectly with dual-monitor setups (surprising, ain't it?).
so, if you don't have a dedicated dual-view (or more) board and software, dual monitors can be kind of a pain. But i got my S3 virge for 10 bucks, and my NEC M700 for 5 bucks from my office, so i'm willing to deal with the issues as they come up.
......yep, that's about all i can think of about that.

thanks much Tu2. I was actually going to but a ti200 pci, but thought I'd try and learn a little more about dual monitors. I might try this if I my dorm I'm moving in has enought desk space for it (which I think it won't), and if I can find a second pci card cheap enough. I realy was trying that other s3 card just to test it, but I wouldn't use it for long, highest color it can go is 16bit, and that is at 800x600 (anything higher and it goes 256 colors). Your setup is truly awesome. I like it moct when people do practical mods to their comps, and not your typical aesthetics ;) .

Sweet indeed... Had to return a bad PS to CompUSA and they didn't have a direct replacement. Went from a CompUSA 500W to a Antec 400W and got 30 bucks on a gift card. The Lian Li was there for 130 minus 30 for the gift card... figured, pretty good deal since I don't have to pay for shipping. Yay for me... I have a Lian Li case. Oddly, this EXACT case isn't on Lian Li's website. It's a PC-60, but slightly modified it looks. The front panel is tapered on the left and right edges and has a carbon fiber look on the top and bottom. Mine also did not have a top mounted fan; just the two front 80MM fans for hard drives and rear 80MM fan. The Part number on the box is PC-60002COM. Hey, it's a Lian Li and that's what I'm worried about. These Lian Li's are some high quality cases... and let's not forget the utterly cool blue power light and red HD light... lol

It is the most spoiling thing ever... okay, perhaps not THE most spoiling thing. But I keep my e-mail open in the 'background' of monitor 2, keep all my chat windows on monitor 2, and run my TV display (or DVD display) on monitor 2. Whatever needs to be focused on (say homework, or web browser, etc) get's Monitor 1 mostly to itself. Quite a setup.

BTW - I had been wanted to a 19" for some time knowing I could use dual monitors. I was at Wal-Mart one day and they had a KDS XF-9c for $225. With a whooping 8% tax here in Alabama, the final price was $243. PriceWatch has only two websites that can beat that price after shipping. Pretty good deal, IMHO.

Thanks, the keyboard is a Viewsonic Slim USB model # KU-201 - I got it from buy.com, it was a little cheaper there than at newegg.com
I really like the keyboard and i'm glad I got it. The reason I bet it looks small is because they moved the keys around a bit, kind of combined them together and made the keyboard smaller. I still have plenty of room to type though - checkout newegg's listing for the upclose pictures. The keys are slim and smooth to touch and typing is very quiet - almost sounds like your typing on a laptop keyboard. I have no problems with it and it matches the rest of my system perfecty.
And you bet I love the Z560's - never once had a problem with them - when I watch a dvd or seinfeld or divx movie (of course I output it to my 27" right beside me :)) I just move the speakers around to thier proper theater positioning. I increased the speaker wire length so I can put them anywhere :)
I also use Sennheiser HD 280 Pro's for my headphone use for when I can't blast the Z560's.

While im here i might aswell post some pics of my current work in progress
Its the spec in the sig, with rounded glow in the dark ide cables (hopefully be getting some spiral wrap for the psu cables soon). Also my girlfriend has ordered me another cathode, 4x80mm neon fans (with 3 colur LEDS) and some neon wire for xmas, so expect to see all of that going in around boxing day.
Hope u like so far, please bear in mind i havnt had a real chance to clean the cables and i have got ALOT of work still to do. I have manged to stealth the drives tho (not the floppy)
ANY feedback is greatly apreciated

hey same is that just a regular green cc or one of those "acid green" cc's. I like how the green looks And was thinking about getting a green to either replace my blue or even find some way to get them looking good in there together... But ever since I noticed that "acid green" at sidwinder I've been wondering how it looks.
samburdett
11-12-2002, 07:07 AM
Hi mate, my cathode is just a regular green cathode to my knowledge. But my pics were taken with my webcam and it tends to blurr inmages a lil so it dosent show the green as clear as it should be. Green and blue should look quite good together, or you can get one of those triple coloured cathodes.
Im quite stuck as to where to put this other cathode which my girlfriend is getting me as the invertors are a pain to hide.
thanks
sam
CRowsey
11-12-2002, 12:14 PM
I've looked at those tri-colored cc's but they look a little to fruity for my taste.. My tri-lite fan is enough... I think it looks really nice where its placed. :) I think I need to find a new place for my blue cc though its kinda blocked where its at now... I wonder if CompUSA still has they're cc's still on sale for 11.99 I'll have to go grab a green one and try and get them lookin nice together.
Has anyone used that "Acid Green" CC found at sidewinder? If it wasn't but only 4" I'd go ahead and give it a try but being so small I'm a little skeptical about how much lighting it would actually be good for.
Thanks

Here's my "Tower of Power":
http://members.cox.net/jeffney/front.jpg
http://members.cox.net/jeffney/iso.jpg
http://members.cox.net/jeffney/side.jpg
The case is a Chieftec/Turbo Link 420W and it's aluminum. The side fan in the window didn't come with it... thanks to Thermaltake's Xaser series, I got the idea to drill a hole in it and put in a lighted fan. With the help of a buddy, I did just that and get extra cooling and customization all at once.
No, it's not watercooled (you guys have some guts!), but there are a respectable 10 fans total in this sucker:
CPU-1
Mobo-1
Vid Card-1
Case-5
Power Supply-2
I have another yellow rounded cable ready, waiting for new hard drives... RAID, anyone?
It's really cool seeing what others have done... let's keep on this topic!
TAZTG
11-17-2002, 02:17 PM
10 Fans is very respectable, nice job. I think if you cleaned up the Power Supply Strands it will make it even more Awesome.. How do you like the Herc. XP, I didn't like mine to much and got rid of it. The sound was OK but when playing UT it kinda sucked...

The best advice to a clean desk I could think of is no desk at all =/ I've allways had a problem with my desks getting messy and it pisses me off... Right now I don't have much of a problem with it, as my desk is fairly small I've got 2 monitors and a cdrack and room for nothing else on it... except a shelf over it which is filled with some of my dvd's. I need to find a new place for my other computer's monitor though its causeing artifacts when both of 'em on :'(

not untill I get a desk large enough to seperate the 2.... or untill it happends to perminatly damage one or both of them... inwhich I'll have to leave one comp alone 'till I get another monitor =/ but untill then I try and keep one off unless necisary to have both on

Thanks for the welcome. TazTG was tellin me about the site so I thought I'd swing by. Nice forums.
I drew a similar picture of the bulldog back in 1991 and had a tatoo made of it. I decided to make a case out of it about a year after my dog "GrunT" died. :( I changed the pic around a bit as it has a cat rubbing up against his leg. I removed it so the window could be larger. I had the window laser cut and the plexi laser etched buteverything else was done by hand. I also redid the back of the case with plexi so I could have two fans in the rear. I think that was the most difficult part. The CM case has 1 big back panel so everything had to be replaced and cutout.

Welcome to Sharky's G-Man. Your case is an example of what modders strive for, which are truely a work of art. I want to get that Mudflap Grill in a 120mm and put on my top blow hole. Incase anyone else is interested and wants to check out some nice MODS & How-To's, head over to Gruntville (http://www.gruntville.com). Its a nice place to pimp your rig like and check out other ones. ;) ;)

These were taken today (12/30) and I just cleaned up my wires with the split loom. The pink string on the mobo power cord is just temporary until I get the right string. I plan on getting some yellow rounded IDE/Floppy cables to help out with better airflow. I want to get a UV ccfl and maybe another color, I haven't decided yet. There are more pictures at my website on NetFirms.com (http://ltpl4y3r.netfirms.com/) I made them small for all of your 56k'ers.
BTW... The case is premodded, because it was the only yellow aluminum chieftec w/o a power supply @newegg.com when I bought it.
I still think it looks better than what I would have turned out.

I must comment on a good choice in speakers, Got to love the Klipsch 5.1 systems :)
I was wondering about the ThermalTake fan grill on the CPU fan, but a swiftech heatsink?

That was the question. I was wondering if that was a Swiftech Heatsink with a ThermalTake fan grill on it..
OFFTOPIC:
I too hate my SprintPCS service, I never had such a terrible connection problem. I would walk 1 block and have 4 bars and then 2 feet later 0 bars (connection lost).

It's a swiftech heatsink with a thermaltake smartfan on it. (See sig).

I don't care if it cools YOUR HOUSE :p Point is, your circulation isn't reaching maximum efficency by a hole being there Unless:
You have an intake on the front bottom of your case and another fan on that blowhole blowing in, then maybe. If the blowhole is blowing out, that useless.

I think taztg is the one with the "Big Blue." I thought he painted it himself, the case, mouse, and keyboard.
Check out this place that sells keyboards, mouses, and optical drive bezels in the colors of cheiftec cases.
