I frequently come across posts that don't actually have any content, often just a quote from another poster. A perfect example can be found here (http://www.sharkyforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=152281), where CadetLee quotes mpitts, but writes nothing further, and then THESANTINI compounds the issue by quoting CadetLee (which results in a post containing precisely nothing).

I'm not trying to single these two people out, since they're certainly not the only ones who do this. I'm just wondering if this is an acceptible practice. It seems to me that if someone feels strongly enough about the content of a thread to contribute to it, they should at the very least have something to say, rather than simply quoting what someone else has already written.

heh they just serve the same function as a "ditto" "me too" etc

I realize that. But it seems... I dunno... lazy, I guess, that these people can't be bothered to actually write out their own response.

Eh. Maybe I'm the only one who has an issue with this. I was just curious to see if "The Sharky Team" had an opinion.

I work in a professional office where everything we write is a legal document. This practice of "silent" approval really confuses me. I don't know if the message was missing, deleted or invisible. It just looks like something was left out.

I'd like to at least see "ditto" or "definitely" (etc) to acknowledge the post. But it's up to the individual users to change this behavior and we may see some change and others continue the same.

I used to think they were accidental posts, then I caught on that it was pure lazyness. They bug me too.

Check to see if it was edited. It may have been censored.

Already checked. I wouldn't have any issue with it if there was a valid reason (such as objectionable content being removed). ;)

I dislike those posts as well, just as much the "+1" posts, all they are doing is uping their postcount. I guess they could be considered spam as they do not contribute to the thread at hand...

They aren't talking about sigs:confused: they were talking about posts that had just a quote and no words..

That's exactly my point - they are +1 posts, nothing more. As far as I'm concerned, there's no need to post if you're not going to make even the slightest effort to contribute something - quoting someone else doesn't count.

That may be OT, but I agree with you. Take a look here (http://www.sharkyforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=148221). ;)

Yes, I agree with most everyone here.

If you're going to say just "ditto" or simply quote someone and that's all, then don't even do it, but if you are going to actually do it, at least add a sentence as to why you agree.

I always figured a simple quote with no text was just a mistake, but I just learned otherwise.
