I'm thinking about getting a cheap laptop to do some work on the move so I don't have to sit around by my main system all the time. All I really need it to do is word processing and maybe internet access.

I was just wondering if anyone knows of a place to get an old laptop that would be able to do this stuff for really cheap (hopefully under $300 - I have serious budget problems right now.)

Thanks for your advice.

As mentioned in another thread, you can get deals on eBay if you're willing to bid and put the time in to watch it...

If you go that route, you also need to put time in to contact the seller and verify what you are getting; be sure to get a much info as possible on shipping, total costs, unit condition, etc.

My IBM (PII) from Arizona runs perfect and I must have conversed with the seller at least 10 times back and forth about the unit and other pertinent info. Like you, I only need it for spreadsheet, word processing and internet and I only spent <$500 for everything, DVD/CD-RW drive, 288 memory, PII-300, and floppy attachment.

Go for it.....
