Im thinking of making a custom 80 mm to 40 mm fan adapter so that i can cool my graphics card more... and i was wondering in order to keep the backpressure low.. will i need to make a little hose or small output in the adapter so i dont have air blowing out the intake side of the 80 mm?

Just wondering, i've heard the blow off valve idea before, just wondering if itd be necessary

Thanks...

i think putting an 80mm fan on a video card would be overkill

a blow off valve would only be effective in high pressure instances

Well, I have no money (or none that i want to spend on some orb fan) so i just have to deal with what i have, and what i would be doing is making an adapter so that i can take the 80 mm fan down to the 40 mm so i can get more air in there... (beleive me, my cooling sucks) And yeah i know a BOV would be effective in high pressure instances.. however there still will be some backpressure (air coming back) seeing as the fan will be blowing more than the 40 mm can push.;) Im just looking for some ideas.. or whatever feedback you have..

It's not so much the pressure you are concerned about, but the FLOW. if you had outlet slits or holes nearer to the gpu, air could flow by the gpu, and then out to the case. You could direct some of this flow to the ramsinks, if you have them.
