CompactFlash Type I

New forum, perfect timing :) . Just got a digital camera for my dad. I'm a newb at digital cameras. What's the best type I compactflash media? I'm leaning towards a "40x" (6.0 MB/s read/write) Lexar card with something called "Write Acceleration Technology" since the camera supports that. (I'm not sure if the camera's limited to a slower speed than 40x, but I don't think it will hurt since the media will be reusable in future cameras that may support a faster speed.)

Any suggestions?

Honestly, unless you're taking pictures in rapid-fire succession, you might not notice the difference in write speed. Most cameras buffer data before writing it to the CF card so that you don't have such a long delay between shots. Unless you fill up the buffer, write speeds will seem very similar from card to card.

With that said, faster is still better, even if not by such a huge amount. dpreview.com (http://www.dpreview.com) has a good article on their site comparing the speed of various CompactFlash cards:

The particular Lexar card you mentioned is too new to be in that article, but their previous CF cards stacked up really well to the competition.

The delay isn't that long so to speak, maybe a second or two sometimes. It's just annoying to see the wait icon. I'm not sure if it has a buffer.

I guess I'll just go with the Lexar.
