I'm ordering a bunch of upgrades for my system tomorrow (cpu, sound card, 20dB fans, memory, etc.) and I'm looking for the quietest HDD available. Ive heard that Seagate Barracuda IVs were the best in this area, but I cant find any on newegg. Are any of the other Barracudas as good in terms of noise?

Anyway, I'm not looking for a high capacity drive. The smallest one they make will probably do. Just so you know, my machine has the old style ribbon cables in it from like 5 years ago... I think they're called IDE or something... whatever the old interface was, you know what I mean.

What do you guys recommend? What about other online retailers besides newegg that still have Barracuda IVs in stock?

Also, what kinds of accessories can I get to make it even quieter? How about that NoVibes thing? I have this computer in my bedroom so I'm trying to make it silent as possible.

The seagate 7200.7s are the best you can do if you cant find the Barracuda 4s. If you check out silentpcreview.com they review systems like novibe and said it works pretty good. Also, they have a guide on how to silent a HD by making sandwiching it between aluminum.

I have three 7200.7s and I cant hear them over my PSU, but the PSU is pretty loud.
