What you can do with extra fans and 20 minutes

I actually did this months ago but only got myself a digital camera very recently. In hindsight I could have selected more matching fans than these but these were 2 extra 80mm's I had around so that's what I used.

Simple set-up. I superglued and zip-tied 2 80mm's together. Then I superglued them to 2 pci brackets move over GeForce 5800. Net result is a cooler running VC and mobo temps also lost a degree or three. With a 120mm fan in the front of the case feeding these guys it works out rather efficiently.

Not the greatest mod but its all mine and it gives me a chance to use my DC for SF. Also if you check my sig you'll see I still got the bright neon green pics on there however, I also re-sprayed my case in a much darker and more subtle green.

This is only an intermediate phase as I'm really trying to forge something different with the next major system overhaul. Amazingly I have not spent a red cent on this rig in maybe 4 months and probably won't for another 4.

What I did was reverse the fan on my pal8045 so that it is once again sucking air through the sink. Although the performance is QUITE a bit worse, like 4-5C, I can now have all my fans on exhaust. The PSU is pulling about 20cfm, the 2 back exhausts are each doing around 35cfm and the 120mm side panel fan is doing around 50-60cfm. Now, I removed 3 of the PCI slot covers and then proceeded to manufacture a little barrier between my gfx card and the sound card out of construction paper (hey, i'm cheap, ok?). Here's a drawing of the entire setup:

The piece of paper forces the air to pass by the GFX card before being sucked out the side and the back. Helps a lot in cooling the card down. Of course, this only works when you only have exhaust fans. :)

Quick an Easy MOD Spas. Supergluing them to the PCI Slots, hmmmm. I have seen old PCI Cards modded and fitted with fans. Same principle & effect. You should have made both of them LED Fans. LOL

Gee, just think if you had to make a Patent for Modding. You had to get a permission before doing a certain MOD, damn that would be insane and lots of Galleries would be empty. Would you MOD your Case if you had to hide the MOD. Its in my blood I have to MOD. LOL :D

Another thing to use a 80mm fan for is a minni fan to cool you off :D . I found the parts at work to make it oscalate so all I need now is to make a platform for it, probablly out of some scrap alluminum.

Where does that hot air go though? If you've got an intake fan in the front, is that hot air trapped in a deadspot? A blower might be better in that respect, or ducks going out those slots ?

The hot air gets sucked out the back. There's also a 120mm side panel fan blowing on the gfx/cpu so that gets the air nice and mixed up.

I'm not one to comment on mods, or even cases, but I must say, I like what you have done here.

This coming from a guy that has no case, just a test table; you gotta be pleased :D

hmmm, good idea and good looking to m8, i will also do this with a 60 mm i hawe . Btw , nice colour m8 , mucho better than the old one :)
