I guess you've got three options:

(1) Find a sales receipt to prove you've had it less than a year so they'll service it under warranty.

(2) Call Western Digital and beg and plead, telling them that you bought it less than a year ago, and hope they'll honor the warranty since it's so close. You might also want to mention if the drive started acting up before the end of the warranty period, but died a short time afterward.

(3) Chuck the drive and buy a new one.

tried to get you data off yet? ther should be some utility for fixing it. Also they say freezing the drive for a period will help it work again long enough to get you stuff, or some crap liek taht...

Yep, hard drive makers are doing things like that: If your drive is more than a year old at the time the manufacturers shortened the warranty from three years down to one year, the manufacturers will terminate the warranty at that time. And if you bought a hard drive that was subject to such warranty shortening less than one year before such a warranty change occured, they will treat it as if the new warranty policy were in effect at the time of original purchase. Thus, the warranty would only be good for one year from the original purchase date, even if the original purchase date was before the warranty change.
