This REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, REALLY SUCKS!!!
I thought for once a game would actually get released on-time!
Did I mention this sucks?
EB says: Nov. 11th
http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/235059.asp

Best buy says between the 3rd and 12th!
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=1056899605282&type=product

Why do they always have to do this? Can't they ever get a game out the door on-time. I'm sure they'll officially announce the delay on the 29th... (like always)

11th, 12th, 13th, even 30th is still good for me. What matters is, just as soupnazi and oozle1 the actual game. I would prefer it late, but the best possible.

Relax -
There was a thread about this already. According to Valve, the game is still scheduled for a Sept 30th release.

there was an editoral on planet half-life about how it'll be pushed back and it was all opinion...then on the phl forums there was someone who brought up some very concrete evidence saying that the release date is still sept 30th...while on the other side that says it'll be pushed back there's no evidence that suggests that...

Unfortunately, Valve is the developer and not the publisher which is Vivendi. It was someone from Vivendi who originally announced the delay. Other retailers including Amazon, Gamestop & CompUSA list a release date of late October / early November. It can't be coincidence that they're all in a 2 week window 4-6 weeks later than originally expected. It's likely that they have all have received word from someone at Vivendi about the delay. Valve has little to no control over this.

That wouldn't be to bad if Vivendi wasn't the owner of Sierra Studios. Vivendi is already starting it's downfall. They spent too much money buying out other companies like the USA network(USA, Scifi channel), Sierra, Blizzard, etc. and they didn't get the returns they expected. In 2001 alone they lost 13.6 billion euros(they are a french company).

true but it would not have been econamicaly sound to release a game that basically doesnt play on the majority of copmuters since 60% some odd have nvidia gfx cards in there computers

Hmm, maybe if they haven't put those man hours in they could bundle HL2 with a coupon for some amount off an ATI card.

Easy on the developers, easy on gamers.

Still think it's not gonna be delayed.

One should have known you cant keep promises on a game with that much hype. It has to be perfect or there will be no strong Half-Life 3, we dont want another Tribes 2 do we? I can hardly wait myself. Gives me time to upgrade more RAM, get a new CPU/MOBO and a new video card. Its only 2 more months, hopefully :).

Terry

They should be working on HL3 already.
I remember reading that in PC GAMER.

And on to note the Gold date:
Facturies are going to dedicate their machiens to this I bet :)
So it probably won't take as long as other games.

I don't allow myself to get hyped up about these things. That's what's nice, when D3 is released they will just release a notice. They won't set a date and try to get there while we all bite our nails about it, they are expected to just say "hey its done so you can have it in 2 weeks". I can wait the two extra weeks. I don't doubt the game is not finished yet, it probably is, they are just getting everything ready for launch and I'm sure the plants that make the games for valve are trying to get geared up.

We've managed to get an official statement from Valve Software on the release date of Half-Life 2 being pushed back. Here is word that I got directly from Doug Lombardi of Valve Software. Valve seems to have been having some mail issues so you may not see this on other sites, however we can confirm with absolute certainty that this is valid:

The previously announced September 30th release date for Half-Life 2 is being pushed back. We are currently targeting a holiday release, but do not have a specific "in-store" date to share at this time. We will release that information as soon as we have confirmed a new date.

i wish i could say this to my teacher about turning in a research paper late. the holidays they are talking about is probably 4th of july. one question, how early do companies usually announce that a game has gone gold before the "real" release date? a month? cause if so i think they would have done so by now. none of this "probably during the holiday season bull$hit"

I read over at VoodooExtreme, Gabe said Holidays 2003. So I guest that's better than a generic "Holidays" release. Based on the observation that developers almost always take the latest possible time for their vague forcast, I think mid-December is a good guest. I realise a lot of retailers are guesting mid-November. But I get the feeling there is a lot more to fix than Valve originally expected.

Well, for both games sake, I hope their release dates are far enough apart that they don't compete directly with one another - kinda like two big blockbuster movies...
I wouldn't doubt the possibility that Doom3 ships first.... :(
I'm not knocking Doom3 (I think it'll be really good), but I think HL2 will be more fun overall. I just don't like to crap in my jockeys, and I think Doom 3 will make me do just that...

I dont understand why people become so suprised when they hear that a games gets delayed. Its a business strategy to do this, they fell to get people more anticipated for the game.

And for the Source Code leak , i believe its another busness strategy/publicity stunt, especially how they put it on the msnbc news, like there is a big percentage in the world that cares about that game or even know what source code is. and why in the world would they have ther computers with the halfife 2 source content in them connected to the internet anyway? they hould have a line of computers for the internet and another line for their software. sound bizarre to me.

If the April 2004 date becomes "official", then I think it would be in Valve's interest to so. I would be quite happy to play the SP missions before Christmas, and download the MP patch in the Spring. I think that would raise Valve's image amoung the fans.
