I am not a huge NFS fan, but have you seen the screens on this one? We are talkin great gameplay. Plus with the addition of the Nitrus Oxide features to give your car that extra boost; its like running right onto the 2 Fast 2 Furious set. The graphics are so in tune, in fact, that the scenery blurs whenever you hit the NOS button. The only thing I hope that will be available is the custom features. I want to be able to kick a$$ on the streets and then trick out my ride from the cash I earn! This game will be something to look forward to.

I have to say the hot pursuits were my favorites, but this underground title is going to take NFS to insane limits.

Here is a link (http://www.eagames.com/ps2/nfs_underground/home.jsp) , the images are small but awesome. Even though it is not the greatest game, I do like NFS: HP2. Just not a great gamer, I guess.:)

I'm skeptical. I love the NeedForSpeed series. I've played them all since NFS2 and I'm near completion of Hot Pursuit 2.
However, I'm also right in the middle of Midnight Club 2 and I hope NFS:underground is nothing like this game. I don't like the "nitrous/boost" feature the way it is done. Real nitrous doesn't work that way, so why change the physics of a great game to add this cheesy effect?
I will probably get it, though, and enjoy it.
I race cars on the weekend at the drag strip. I have raced cars with big v-8's, n/a 4-cyl, turbo 4-cyl, and imports with nitrous. I go drag racing because it is safe if done properly. I use the games to relase the "urge" to do crazy things on the street. I'm hoping NFS:underground will mix the import scene into its already great collection of cars and physics.

well i have been playing the demo for few days already, online playing rocks and the graphics are intense...loving every bit of it.

I also have the demo and have been playing it.... it's 'OK'. There's just too much rice for me to deal with I think. The drag racing however is cool as hell and getting your shifts right is very important. The nitrous is too powerful though, in real life it may give you .25 seconds of your 1/4mile time if your lucky.

I'm a huge fan of rancing games that involve traffic or police. My favorite NFS was Hot Pursuit. This one looks awsome, I'm not a huge fan of the types of cars in the game, but it looks like a kick arse racing game.

I hope it's nothing like fast and furious. That would mean alot of super slow ugly cars.

I'm sure the nitrous oxide is overdone, but then again when you're playing the game most people want it to be fun instead of realistic. Granted, sometimes increased realism helps you feel more like you're in a real race (the blur effect was an excellent touch imo), but a lot of times you just want the sensation of going fast and flying around turns and such that is really hard/impossible in real life.
Personally I can look past the realism factors and just enjoy, and it looks like it's going to be a very slick game.

oh don't get me I wrong I understand what your saying and the game in general does give a feeling of speed which I really like but the nitrous is just too much for me.
I'm still an avid fan of the drag racing part, but if you want circuit racing you should go pick up GT3...

Funniest part of the second F and F was when the guy was in the neon, spins around backwards gives someone the finger then spins back around. Now, if that were real, he'd have dumped his transmission all over the highway.

yeah I saw the movie, and bought it (it's a good movie despite the rice) but I still want to kill every kid I see in a pimped out civic with a 20' spoiler which serves no purpose other than to add extra weight and drag.
And my cousin just recently cracked his VTEC block so I raise hell on him :)

From a car standpoint: this conversation doesn't make any sense.
Yes, going backwards at like 70mph and then shifting into reverse would kill any transmission: auto or manual.
Double clutching would do nothing to help it.
Double clutching is NOT just for older cars. I double clutch any time I downshift. It saves the synchro's. Ever try going around a tight radius turn? Entering the turn at 60mph, slamming the brakes to drop your entrance velocity, and you want to be in 2nd coming out of the turn. There is no way you want to throw the car in 2nd without double clutching. That would kill your synchro's after a couple weeks of racing.
Any circuit racer will tell you that double clutching is a good thing.
No, it is probably not necessary for newer cars in normal driving conditions. But, in that movie, they were not normal driving conditions. Even if he tried double clutching he would have killed the tranny.

The same goes for games.
When you spend a good portion of your day around cars, then you get that feel for them. It is hard to enjoy something when they try to portray realism, yet deviate from it in certain crucial areas. yes, I bought both Fast & Furious movies because I like car movies. Of course I notice the ridiculus things they do for special effects and it ticks me off. Well, I don't get angry, just dissappointed. The same goes for movies like "Ronin", "Gone in 60 Seconds", "Days of Thunder", "Thunderbolt", etc.
They are good car movies, but they have some really stupid moments of unrealism.
A computer game is the same way; I will probably buy NFS:underground but some of the ridiculus unrealistic parts will dissappoint me more than add to the enjoyement.
Call me a nerd? Sure if you want.
Call me a car freak? Sure, whatever.
Call me a car lover? Sure.
I love cars. I love car movies. I love car games. I love car races. I don't know if that makes me a nerd or not. But, whatever.
I'm not going to let some unrealistic issues interfere with me enjoying a game/movie. It just leaves that much more untapped potential that could have been used.

Well, the speeds involved make it difficult.
REV gear is only so big. With the wheels spinning so fast, the gear is spinning multiples faster. That means to be in REV going over 60mph, the engine rpms would be out of this world.
I seriously doubt you could do over 60mph in REV gear at all. You'd redline the engine before you got that fast.
But... that is just the engineer/car freak in me talking.
Back to the game: I got it. The "drift" seems pointless and the drag racing isn't as good as I thought it would be. The upgrades are decent and add a dimension of the game that NFS: Porche Unleashed couldn't quite get right.
I really don't have much of an opinion now, either way.

So far? I'm not impressed, but I'm not dissappointed either. I don't like the "no damage" thing, but I guess I'll just get over it.
And I don't like the fact that you HAVE to put stickers and neon lights to get to certain areas.

No you don't. You have to put neon to boost your "reputation" but stickers don't affect your reputation rating.
