I'm considering getting a laptop by the end of the year, and just recently came across an HP that caught my eye. This would be my first laptop, but i've been reading up alot of them lately. Anyways here's the specs I configured on this deal:

HP Pavillion zt3000:
http://hpshopping.speedera.net/www.shopping.hp.com/shopping/images/products/dn545av_400.jpg

Pentium M 1.4ghz
512MB DDR SDRAM (2x256)
40GB 4200rpm Hard Drive
DVD/CDRW combo drive
15.4" 1680x1050 LCD
64MB ATI Mobility Radeon 9200

The price would be $1649 - $100 rebate - $164.90 coupon code (10%)

Final Price: $1,384.10 -> free shipping and no tax.

Overall I think that's a pretty good deal. I've been considering both the Dell 8600 and 600m, and i can't really get those similar specs at that low of a price. I like the IBM T40-41 series laptops aswell, but they are definitly pricey for what you are getting. I've also considered going more lower-end with sub-$1000 markets, but I do want something with some kick and definitly a higher resolution screen than just 1024x768 (ewww). My main uses of this laptop will be for classroom/college workings, then at the apartment here for wireless internet general usage and photo/video handling when I'm away from the desktop. Since the specs are fairly nice i might game here or there when i'm on the go, but it definitly isn't a priority.

Thoughts?

looks pretty good, i've never seen that model myself though. As far as reliability you might be better off with a dell, but you shouldnt have much of a problem with an HP. The only thing I have agst them is they're usually really thick, but it looks like this model isnt. If you wait for the right time, you can get a 600m for around that, but definitly not an 8600, and the HP has a bigger screen than the 600m. The computer will meet all your needs with no problem., and looks like a good deal. It may get better around black friday though.

i wud stay away from HP laptops, i have sold hundreds and i am not comfortable with them.i think HP shud stop making everything except their IPAQ (btw which was developed by compaq) coz they suck at making everything and that includes their NEW printer lineup (not that anyone asked).
toshiba/IBM/Gateway for me..just my two cents.
PS: i wish HP goes outta business so people can stop being ripped off.

I don't see how getting that lappy and that price is a rip off...

If anything.... Get extended warrantys : )

HPs new printer line does suck....I was using my uncle's photosmart 7550 and around 300 pages later its almost out of ink. I had just been printing documents (essays and such).
I now recommend Canon printers. They're quiet, more economical, faster, and cheaper. HP did make grea printers at one point...

I love my PSC2175. alot of days I print 20 or more pages, and I've had it for about 3 months and have yet to change a cartridge.
