I played daoc for quite a whiile and just got sick of it.
Are there any games coming out "soon" that break the trend of these games? Daoc was one of the only ones where i didn't feel like i was uselessly leveling.
I want something original. Games are starting to blow.
Although i'm looking forward to deus ex 2 and doom 3. Maybe the sims 2. ircspy

World of Warcraft comes out next summer and looks pretty good, also another online game is Matrix Online (not sure if it's and rpg) which comes out late 2004 I think and hopefully will be better than Enter the Matrix

WoW, IMO, will be the "new" UO. Even though it may not have PvP, I think it will really give that feel of being in the RPG. That's just my opinion. I think it will be great.
The Matrix Online will be the suck. Plain and simple. While it was a cool movie, and single player games that feature bullet time (Max Payne) are awesome, multiplayer games are impossible. It just isn't physically possilbe. You can't have one player move slower, while another moves faster, or at normal speed. Well, you can, but that's called lag:p You can NOT have multiplayer bullet time. Impossible.

The new UO wont have PvP? dangit
and bullet time isnt impossible just highly unlikely. I always just figure the person going into bullet time will see it a little slower and everyone else will see it faster, and when you shoot while in slow motion it will calculate where it hits in relation to everyone else in the real time, like a delay for .5 second and it will calculate what you shot at .5 seconds ago and register hits that way but thats just my opinion and who knows if anything like that will ever be done right, if at all :D

I know. Almost seems contradictory. It may have PvP. They haven't said yet, but I have a feeling they will have nomral severs, and a PvP server that will follow. Maybe it will be live at launch. Who knows. The ways in which it will be like UO, however, is in its trade skills. You actually have to go out and harvest ore, and lumber, and stuff like that in order to have supplies to make items. As stupid, boring, and lame as this seems I think it was a big part of what made the economy in UO actually work. UO had an economy like NO OTHER MMORPG ever has. I just wish I didn't have to WAIT SO DAMN LONG FOR THE GAME TO COME OUT! I've been searching for my MMORPG fix since I quit UO years ago. Played EQ, AC, FFXI and SWG briefly. Really never kept my intrest. I played DAoC for a while. It was pretty fun...but got boring. I have high hopes for WoW and the faith that Blizzard will make a good game. They haven't made a game that sucked yet. Hell, I still play Starcraft sometimes because its just that awesome.

WoW does look really good for next year.
I will definitely try City of Heroes, been waiting on that since 2000
I am looking forward to Horizon's
Horizon's Website (http://www.istaria.com/)
Horizon's beta website (http://www.tazoon.com)
I like the fact that the players will decide the direction of the game, even the release of Subjugated races will depend on the players actions. It is heavily slanted toward crafting. I like that you can also play a dragon in it.

i hear horizons sucks. i read a review from a beta tester saying that you barely get any items full, you get *part* of an item and have to get the other parts from other players.... and its just a pain. but that was just a review i read, maybe it wont suck.

City of Heroes is a flawed concept!
Superman wouldnt be cool if there was a cityfull of him...then it would just be krypton.
I mean the whole Idea of being a "super"hero is being abnormal, thus in a city full of heroes your just another schmuck

Recon, technically Kryptonians did not have powers on their home planet due to the red sun. Anyway, City of Heroes might be cool once they let people be super villians. WoW will have PvP, that's why they have the Horde and the Alliance. I will be getting WoW for sure. SWG has a lot of good fundamentals, but they need to add more content to keep me in it for the long haul.

I was playing DAOC on Mord. now im playing FFXI and not looking back.
hard to get used to but a REALLY fresh felling after playing DAOC.
there is a monthly charge and an extra buck per extra toon, but since you can change classes at any time and max all trades with the same character thats not even an issue. My main is a mithran (cat race)thief and I tried white mage (healer) but didnt like it much so im waiting till 30 so i can unlock the ranger class and keep thief as my subjob (secondary skills)
just my advice if you want to be really versatile dont pick Tarutaru (lil guys meant for casters, low hp as tanks) or Galka (think furry troll in DAOC low mp as casters) but really no race is so gimped you cant play a certain class with it (a lotta people play Galkan black mage, not for the higher HP, but because theres some really nice mage armor thats Galka only)
Theres no PvP yet but they're gonna implement it soon as part of the story line. (1st MMORPG with a true story line as far as I know)
Ill definately be trying WoW though when it comes out (thats the one my wife is waiting for)
you may not like it but its definately worth trying.

This is almost to a "T" the same way I feel. One side note I hate the idea of servers that are pvp and some that are non-pvp.

Indeed. However, I felt that the DAoC PvP server could have been amazing. Could have been, that is. With a few simple fixes, like town safe zones and elimination of the green/blue/yellow/red/purple con system.

stay away from horizions...I just didn't like it at all...too repetitive for me...one game that looks really promising is dragon empires (www.dragonempires.com) I'm in the beta for that and even though I haven't played it yet...it looks great visually and seems to have a lot of PvP action...

Been there seen it, actually have all the movie trailers...
We have to see if the game lives up to the eye candy though. Hope it has some good content and game play :). Don't need a blonde elf with D cups, already have one with E(DDD) cups.

Picked up Horizons this weekend and ended up playing alot on Sunday....very entertaining start. Of course, that will probably change with time as has every MMORPG down the pike since EQ. Leveled my Dragon to 10 in just four or five hours. I think what I enjoyed is that with practically each level, my toon gets a new ability. The dragons grow in size over time and, supposedly, get flying ability at some point. Anyway, I've enjoyed this early on more than FFXI (blech!), AC2, and AO.

Here is a nice link for MMORPGS
MMORPGS (Current and Upcoming) Compiled List (http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/sort/title)
Horizon's is a lot of fun right now, but I can see it getting old several months down the line, unless they ramp up the Events and content.
That Lineage II looks great. Is it still on track to be released 2/25/04?

I played DAOC since the inception and I haven't found anything like it yet. All of the MMORPG's seem to lack the user community, especially FFXI. Though after playing FFXI, the graphics of DOAC seems childish and poor. I guess once you get into any MMORPG, nothing else will compare and you will keep searching, kind of like your first love.
