I got an 8600 with the WSXGA+ panel. Dell states on it's website it has a 35ms response rate, 300:1 contrast ratio, numerous other specs. It's shipping an INFERIOR panel! The panel they are shipping is 50ms, 200:1, heavier than they say, less bright. The ghosting on this thing makes me sick. DON'T ORDER TIL' JANUARY AT THE EARLIEST! January is the earliest they will send the acceptable panels. This is totally unacceptable, and if I can't get one with the panel they promise, I'll take my business elsewhere.

Out of curiosity, how do you figure that you got a 50ms 200:1 screen? Did you run some kind of test on it to determine that? Did Dell tell you this on the phone?

The monitor brand I got was Hitatchi. The better quality panels are Samsung. Although Dell won't admit to it, many factors prove I did get an inferior panel than they promise.
On Hitatchi's website, they only list 1 monitor with those specs with the 50ms and 200:1. Obviously Samsung lists the better specs. You might think Hitatchi could be making these for Dell exclusively but it's highly unlikely, why advertise a bad quality LCD when you have better quality ones?
Also, if you look at the Dell forums, I haven't seen one post where anyone complains about the Samsung, I've seen hundreds complain about the Hitatchi. Nobody notices any ghosting on the Samsung.
Also, everyone who's seen the 2 panels side by side notices the difference in quality.
One more crazy thing I discovered. Check my post here (http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=insp_video&message.id=101932). I say how by default, every effect but "show window contents while dragging" is enabled. Upon restart this is disabled. I've never seen this happen on any other computer, and to me it proves they're trying to hide something, as when it's enabled the window blurs and ghosts when you move it. People with the Samsung say this doesn't affect them!

if you just got the unit, i am sure they have at least a 30day 'bring it back/exchange policy' of some kind.
you should be on Dell like stink on sh!t, if you know what i mean. try nicely first, then if that doesn't work, get loud and nasty.
there wasn't some kind of disclaimer regarding the possibility of different monitors, cause the more i think about it, if you didn't get what was advertised, Dell has an obligation to satisfy.
if it gets to punches, make sure you have all the documentation with you so you can validate your complaint (all your monitor research and the disclosure for your unit), Dell has a good rating with the BBS, so maybe a slight hint in that direction if things go tough on the battlefield.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
good luck.
i bet that with the proper approach, it will go smoothly.

hmmm...I got my I8600 in November, with the WSXGA+ screen, and even after playing multiple games I don't think it has a huge ghosting problem, and i'm very happy with it's image quality. I'm assuming I got a Samsung screen, but where exactly could I check to see which panel I got for sure? My device manager just lists it as a default monitor with no more information. I don't have all the stuff that came with the laptop currently, I'm away from home.. Thanks!

Well, thanks for the info.
I am farely close to ordering mine. I was worried about possible downgrad issues, since write now i have the high grade UXGA screen. Theres a $150 difference, might be worth it for the higher resolutions and quality.
Dell's return policy is the worst imaginable, especially for LCD's.
Storys of people getting downgraded to lower quality ones, ones with dead pixals...
But try it, I mean you payed for that nice screen.

If you have the service tag you should be able to check on the Dell support site. There's also a certain registry key you can search for, I forget what it is exactly, it's on the Dell forums. I also heard if you download powerstrip it will show you the brand.
It's going back in a week, and fortunately I know other people who've returned it for the same reason and got a refund. I think you can get a refund within 30 days for any reason.
I just looked it up on the dell site and I did get the Samsung Panel
Part # 7T774
Liquid Crystal Display, WSXGA+, NO-SPWG, 15.4, Samsung

I believe you need to go to the premier support section. Or check out the other ways I mentioned above.

I entered in my service tag through dell's website and then there is a link to see the original configuration, in which all the information lies within.

The only game I've played on this laptop is Halo. I have run 3dmark. The game was a bit laggy at 1024 with high details, and I figured maybe if I turned it down some it would help with the ghosting. To my suprise it was even worse. Before I just couldn't realy focus on anything while moving or I'd go dizzy, with not much trailing. Now there was trailing everywhere I moved. I think because Halo is so intensive it lags and leaves frames behind and you don't notice it as much on the LCD. But at the lowest setting it plays like a normal game and it was horrible.

Well I got my system exchanged and I received a Samsung panel. To my dismay I still notice ghosting on this display, to the point I'm dizzy playing FPS. I guess this is to be expected even on a 35ms display, but the laptop folks have gotten my hopes up. I guess they don't notice ghosting as much as the Sharky type of peeps. It is slightly better than the Hitatchi, a little brighter, but I realy can't enjoy a game while playing, and I may be sending this one back. :(

But an used 8200 with WUXGA, like mine!
I play tons of FPS on it and is happy.
And when I compare this to CRTs side by side, it often out-performs them :)
Wanna trade?
