I have an athlon xp 3200+ @ 2.43 and 9600xt and I was just wondering if you guys think this would handle Doom 3 and Half-Life 2. I wont be upgrading until December which I will be getting an X800 and 3500+ :D . Thanks in advance.

Note: With okay graphics not High.

I think it'll run about the same as Far Cry already does. If your comp can handle far Cry, it'll run Doom 3 and HL2 "ok" , but not great. Dont expect to put up the eye-candy tho .

I don't think you need to worry...an XP3200+ is a pretty powerful CPU.;) You neglected to list your ram size....512mb or 1gb? If you have 1x512mb, I'd suggest another stick of equal size and density for DC - assuming you have an BF2 mobo. You'll find that a lot of the newer games require more than 512mb of ram to run smoothly - like FC.;) As for a new VC, it's entirely up to you, but I'd suggest an x800Pro or 6800GT if you wanna run both games with max ingame setting with AA/AF too. Also, bear in mind that D3 is an OGL game (nV's forte) while HL2's DX9 (ATi's forte). But the smartest thing to do rite now is.....wait. Wait for the games to come out and benched before deciding...:)

man far cry by it self eats up over 300megs of ramn and onther 300megs of VM. Having 1 gig of ram helps out a lot with far cry since I still have over 200 free when it running

Considering that Doom 3 was demoed on a P4 2.4 Ghz machine with a 9700Pro in 800x600 resolution, I think you'll be fine. Id should have more optimizations as well enough adjustments to get you playable around 1024x768. I would expect average performance. Of course this is a momumental guess, so I reserve the right to be wrong. :)

I always find it funny when people ask: Will X game play on my rig? Because I have a 900mhz T-Bird and GF3 Ti500 and I've never had any problems playing games, I'm playing Far Cry right now and I'm amazed at how good it looks and well it runs on my machine. If your machine couldn't play Doom 3 decently then I'm sorry, but that's a pretty crappy job on the part of ID.

I always find it funny when people like you load up a brand new game on an old azz box, turn down all the details, set resolution to 800x600, turn off all AA and AF, and then go on to say how good it runs on your machine.

Blaming ID software for poor performance when you're running a gaming box that is 4 years old is laughable.;)

Right... because I have $1500 burning a hole in my pocket for a new computer and could really care less about graphics. Gameplay is where it's at. Btw I was commenting on Doom3's ablility to run on Nachtwolf's computer, not my own.

Waa Yeah dude you have some reason here cos my totally unOCed stock old honey bee box runs Farcry on 800x600 4xAA and its way better than any xbox game will ever be. Yeah but then my rig IS some piece of old crap but it never ever hangs on me and man it really IS funny to read an XP3200 dude playing the - hey dude do u think i can score a good lap time on my pagani zonda cos it has only a V12 engine? ... :D

They're capping Doom 3 at 60 FPS.

You guys know it's been benchmarked right?

Check it out here... they say it'll run fine on most machines with a 100-200 dollar video card... your rig doesn't have to be the most amazing thing to date in order to play...
