Intel Speedstep

I have a Compaq Evo N800w laptop with an Intel Mobile 2.2Ghz processor. With Compaqs WinXP install discs, an Intel system tray application is included. This allows me to configure speed settings based on my powersource, etc. There are similar options in the Power Options in the control panel.

My problem is I now use a retail copy of XP and the Intel application and the options in control panel are no longer there. What can I do to install them? Searching for awhile has got me no where. Thanks for your help.

I think I read somewhere here recently that XP does the work previously done by speedstep and that the older Intel thing's no longer needed.

I've read that as well, however in system properties it says my 2.2Ghz is running at 1.18Ghz

This is while the machine is idle however, I'm not sure if ut goes up under load or not. I just wanted the manual control so I could force it to run fullspeed when plugged in. I'll post in the OS forums, thanks.

You could try SpeedSwitchXP (http://www.diefer.de/speedswitchxp/index.html), a third-party app that lets you take control of SpeedStep functions.

I wanted to use the Intel app just to play it safe. But I said what the heck and installed SpeedSwitchXP. It works fine and even uses the same icon. Thanks.

If you don't want SpeedStep to adjust your processor, you can set your power scheme to Always On in the standard Control Panel power applet. The Intel application does not work with Windows XP.
