If you have the first Half Life, can you get the Half Life Source (Half Life remade on the HL2 engine)for free or do you have to buy Half Life 2?
I'm hoping that you don't have to buy HL 2 to play HL Source, but I doubt it. :(

And you will need to pay for both of them, if you want HL with HL2 Source Engine. I'm not quite sure, but it would be such an idiotic act from a company to let the game for free.

Not really...why not give away a six year old game for free as a promo for your new game? Deus Ex and Thief did it (on a single DVD, actually, given away by PC Magazine); it actually makes more sense to release it showing off the new engine. Plus, it's not free, it's bundled with the new game; you'll still have to pay for it.
I'm guessing HL-S will come free with HL2, and not be another actual purchase, but I can all but guarentee that you will not be able to download HL-S for free as a stand alone game. Think of it as a total conversion mod.

from all the interviews i've read, all the videos i've seen, and from all hl2 news over the past year.. hl2 is coming shipped with hl1, tfc, and cs redone in the new engine. by shipped i mean the retail box, not dl'd through steam.
unless something has changed in the past month or two that i am unaware of, that's still the plan.

But if you have CS:Condition Zero, you get CS:Source for free through steam. Why would it be different if you own the original HL and not be able to get HL:Source through steam?

Hmmm. Never mind. CS:Condition Zero owners get to beta test, not get the actual game. My bad. Sorry for any confusion.:p

Isn't this what I said.. you'll be paying for it, if you want it.
Well, matter of your own personal business opinion, but I think, since HL was one hell of a popular game and selling it again with the new engine, together with HL2 would bring a lot of demand for both games. Thus making some extra $ for the company, and a lot of fun for the gamers.

will people like myself stuck on dialup forever be able to play HL2 online? HL was one of the best running FPS i ever played.

Has there been any news about the inclusion of Half-Life: Source with only the SE of HL2? Last rumor I heard was that the regular $50 version would not include HL:S, but the $80 special edition (again, $60 at Wal-Mart for those freaking out) would. While it makes no difference to my final purchase (I'm getting the SE either way) I could better rationlize paying more for the Half-Life 2 SE if it included Half-Life: Source with it.

the regular version does not include it but the se does. the SE includes cs:source, opposing force (maybe), blueshift(maybe), and hl1 adapted to source if i am not mistaken

I'm hoping for TFC:Source. I never really got into CS. Maybe it was because I would die right away and then have to wait for four minutes to die again.:(
