Well all I can say is have fun once it arives on your PC. I'll be waiting until it comes out in stores. Quite a good system though, ordering it through Steam. Nice..

I don't think it even still works with CS:S. I tried it a few days after and it kept saying my credit card has been declined. And I tried it a few times and closed steam right when it said to.

Well pre-loading it doesnt change how much you have to pay for it to get the key to unlock the files.
As far as I can tell the only benefit is the few hours wasted downloading the game are used up while the game isn't even released...

No. But they are still going to charge you $50. Best Buy will also charge you $50, but Valve won't see all 50 of those dollars if you get it at Best Buy. If you get it off Steam, they get all 50.

I think we are misunderstanding eachother, lol.
I don't understand why they would give people the ability to download the game before they're even allowed to buy or play it.
I understand that Valve gets more money when people buy it off steam, but pre-loading the game changes nothing.

You can ask for a CD I think and the cd-key is stored on the account so I think that means you can go to anyone else's house that has steam/hl2 and load your account and play.

It's stored in X:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps. But the files are encrypted and no matter what you do you can't make them visible. They don't even show up when you look at the directory in Dos, heh.

I'm getting the "servers are too busy message." Why don't they have a que system?

I think I'll wait till it hits the stores... I rather have the CD's, box, instructions and all than paying the same price for a download. And I wish the game would hurry and come out already I'm so anxious, I've been waiting 6 years!! :D

I'm actually thinking about buying it over Steam. Having HL/HL2/CS:S all "online" makes it so much easier. If you reformat, all you have to do is install Steam, let the game download, and voila. No more flopping CD's around, searching around for updates/patches, applying them, etc.
Ultimately though, it depends on where it's cheaper, retail or Steam. If it's cheaper in retail, then I'll just buy it and use the cd key, the discs will collect dust. I thought they said it would be cheaper through Steam though. Makes sense, because there's no manual/box/disc/package.
Of course if I didn't have broadband, then Steam would be the enemy. ;)

I just finished preloading mine, IIRC 1.01GB in about 30 minutes. The 30 mintues now will probably translate to 10 hours not wasted loading when the game is released. Just one more thing to get out of the way, it's not like I'm using that 1Gb anyway.

I just preloaded mine. I like the idea of downloading instead of having to run to the store. My nearest EB is 30 mins away, and I dont want to buy from walmart... Also I just got counter strike: Source beta. Its pretty cool...
