I'm a long-time web designer, but used to being hosted with pro companies. Before that, it was always free hosts that, at this point, have more pop-ups and banner ads then a freakin' presidential campaign.

Are there any GOOD free web hosts left in the world, for those who just want to actually just do something for fun without paying for hosting?

If so, please let me know... my search has taken me nowhere for good free web hosts, and I've been looking.

Thanks.

Personally, I can't find any worth the time to mess with.

A group of friends and I came across the same problem. As it stands now, we ended up with a colo'd server that we all pitch in. It's great because it's largely versatile. As for web serving goes, it does PHP, Perl, and Python and has mysql databases as well.

It's not free as it costs a decent chunk of money to run, but we get by pitching in 5 or so bucks a month or so for the colocation fees.

And actually, for anyone interested in this sort of arrangement, we have plenty of space on the server and it sits on a 45 mbit pipe. Shoot me a PM or something.
