WHY OHH WHY did they cancel Ultima X? ImaNihilist 09-08-2004, 11:57 PM UO the dream, spirit, and future died years ago. You just gotta' let go. I know, it's hard. It's hard to see the best game ever fall into shadow and nothing but crap to replace it. Sometimes, I still cry about it. :( asmox 09-09-2004, 11:30 AM UO the dream, spirit, and future died years ago. You just gotta' let go. I know, it's hard. Sometimes, I still cry about it. :( Yeah, but the $150 I just sold my account for helps me hold back the tears. LordBritish 09-13-2004, 08:10 PM No Ultima X - noooooooo :*( I remember playing Ultima II http://deviarts.com/Ultima2.gif It's too bad they can't create a RPG that's as good as the old Ultimas but with better GFX. Or perhaps my memory is decieving me, it probably sux if I played it again - haha :) Nightlord 09-14-2004, 05:20 AM ^^^ No way. The old Ultima games were kick ***. I remember buying a special notebook to keep logs of everyone I spoke to and what information they had. Then there was robbing the McDaniels (?) for food. Anyhow, those games really got me started into the whole role-playing thing. And the other nice thing was... the sequels really tied into each other. People remembered you from previous games, or if too much time had passed for them to remember (ala Ultima VII) you were a Legend. Pretty damn awesome storylines. There will never be an RPG series to match Ultima. Never. asmox 09-14-2004, 03:55 PM There will never be an RPG series to match Ultima. Never. also true. Mike00 09-20-2004, 09:57 PM I gave up on UO years ago. I started playing back in 97 but around 2000 they fudged it all up. I play on free player run servers now. I miss the days of hiding outside someones house and jumping them and stealing their keys as soon as they got home. Free houses were easy to come by back then. :( ImaNihilist 09-20-2004, 10:41 PM Originally posted by Mike00 I gave up on UO years ago. That was awesome. Muahahha. UO exploits onwzored. Gar 09-20-2004, 11:02 PM Damn, Ultima X was lookin pretty good too I thought :( Nightlord 09-21-2004, 06:58 PM ^^^ Right there with you, Gar. I was looking forward to UO2 also... but alas, we were let down once again. Even though I'm not too fond of it I think Mike00's way is more in the spirit of the game. The most fun times for me were the first year or so when UO first came out. Slowly over time the game was buttoned down by "fixes" to keep people in check from exploited every little thing and then there were rules for every thing taking a lot of fun and openness out of the game. Of course this is all just my opinion.. asmox 09-22-2004, 04:20 PM Originally posted by XJ uhh... right I'm kinda of the mindset that cheating is for single player games not multiplayer games ,but of course that is just my opinion. Hence the game getting locked down like crazy. Nightlord 09-22-2004, 09:21 PM Originally posted by asmox uo exploits were waaaay too fun to not exploit. Unless you were the one getting exploited. Anonymity sucks. mynameis 09-24-2004, 08:25 PM In the old UO(First couple years), things could happen in game that would just be awesome, like finding a fallen house or looting something really kewl off some dead guys corpse. On the other side, things could happen that really pissed you off, like getting killed while looting a house that your stole a key to or just getting murdered randomly. Now it is just one big happy world where nothing bad ever happens but nothing really good even happens(except maybe getting an artifact which never happened to me). In recent years of UO there is no benefit to team work, anything I could do in the game, I could do by myself and not have to share loot. I think this is due to the fact that skill gain is just incredibly easy now, I remember playing a character a year or more and never getting my skills as high as I wanted them, now it takes maybe 2 weeks, in a month you could build a whole account full of decent characters. In summary they made a bunch of really worthless changes to the game, I could go on but I wouldn't be telling players anything they didn't already know. SharkyExtreme.com
