yea it seems most mmorpg's does that to people. I got addicted to SWG before I just quit cold turkey...was taking up too much of my time. I'm a little afraid to start this one for the same reason.

Lol that is so damn true, I remember when I was into AC2 pretty hardcore...every month on patch day somehow I always managed to come down with a 1 day flu :D

I already told my boss I'll be "sick" the day EQ2 comes out. He just laughed. Then again he's one of the coolest bosses I've ever had.

BTW...This game is flat out awesome.

Anyone else here playing?

I've heard the graphics are very nice but the colors are all really dull. Like mostly green, another shade of green and brown are the predominant colors. I got hooked on WoW during the stress test beta so I guess I'll just have to wait till it's out to get my fix.

I never really got into the whole EQ thing, seemed like to much of a grind to me. So unfairly I haven't even given EQ2 a chance...the only way I will consider EQ2 now is if WoW turns out to be a flop (which I seriously doubt since I loved the stress test)

OpStar

Grinding is a part of any MMO, its just worse on some than others.

In EQ live I heard the grind wasn't that bad because you leveled pretty appropriately as you raided.

The biggest complaint about EQ was the timesink.

I can't wait for EQ II personally :)

I think WoW might have more "hardcore" mmorpg people playing it than EQ2, just due to the fact of who all helped Blizzard create the game as far as quests and such goes. (Those people being people that were top players in the EQ world, for those that don't know.)

OpStar

I doubt any hardcore EQ'er will ever quit playing it.

They have tons of hours over five years invested into their characters.

That'd be hard to just walk away from.

You'd be suprised... Either it just becomes to, well, stupid, or the thought of all the money you could make off of selling your stuff finally gets to you. Latter of the two for me.

So, do people really get addicted to this game? I mean, I've heard there are like EQ anons and stuff for game addiction. I'm already playing BF42 and UT2k4 everynight, I can't imagine what a real good game would be like for me :)

Yeah, people get obsessed with it, as it is really easy to play a game like that for hours (3+) straight everyday. Some friends and I spent essentially a whole summer doing nothing but playing EQ as we were out at Texas Tech, and there's not exactly a whole lot to do out there during the summer (or any other season for that matter). As for the groups, I don't know, that could be a bit embelished, but then again, never know.

There was an article posted here about a year ago about some guy that killed himself because he lost some EQ items.

I lost my interest in EQ in the upper levels. Things became just too serious. When you get around level 50 you realize the importance of guilds and their ability to raid/camp the tough zones for quest items and good equipment. Unfortunately the time requirements are ridiculous. I did a number long raids.... something like login at 10 am and logout at 7 pm. And I realize with alot of people, that's nothing time-wise. Higher level guilds expect you to be active and available to take down the boss mobs....and of course, to raid. I say bu-bye to those days.

Yeah, actually the guild I helped form was a bunch of people that were in big guilds, but were tired of the politics and such that went with them. So we made a smaller guild, that actually did better than some of the larger guilds due to the fact that we were smaller and more organized. The small guild was a lot of fun.

Is it true that some players were able to sell their accounts on ebay for upwards of a couple of thousands of dollars? Or is $100 or so more of really what happened...

OpStar

I've been offered 1700 for my jedi.

EQ 65 level toons used to go for a lot yeah.

Mainly selling in game money is how people make real cash playing MMOs.

Back when EQ was still very young my friend was offered $10,000 USD for both of his level 60 characters. He had a 60 Epic Cleric named Saurumon and a 60 Rogue named Cersi. He didn't sell them because he had spent 6 months, of online time, in the previous few years. He also had rich parents so money was no object to him. I personally would've sold them without question.

These days a level 65 is worth around 200 with good gear. Also depends on the class and race of the character.

I got about 300 for my platinum after selling gear, and then like 100 for the character (something like a 56 paladin with pretty decent no drops off of gods and such). 400 bucks was nice to get since I was quitting anyways. sure I spent a lot of time getting said equipment and such, but I had fun doing it, so basically it equated to 400 bucks + having fun playing the game = happy me.

I think generally speaking the EQ characters were worth the most in the first 2-6 months of the game. I had 2 friends sickly infected with the EQ bug, so bad that one of them quit his job, both playing EQ almost daily 12-18 hours a day for a good 6 months of their lives. It's unbelievable to think that people would do that but I watched it happen. One of my friends had 3 level 50's (before the level cap changed) before I even reach level 40 with my Cleric. He sold his first character, an ogre Warrior which was the first Ogre Warrior to 50 on his server for around $2400 US which was over 3000 Canadian at the time. He had also sold many other items that he camped (farmed) and made lots of money off those items.

It's pretty pathetic that people can get that addicted to games but it does happen. The other friend who I said quit his job to play and waisted 6 months of his life ended up passing away last week in his mid 20's. He never died from gaming, he died from cancer but in the last year of his life we had some chats about the time waisted gaming. Lifes to short to spend day after day playing any game. I don't think I'll ever play another MMORPG again, there to time consuming.

Ouch...kill joy. I am very sorry for your loss though. The main reason I gave up MMORPG's is because I could no longer see the people in RL that I played with online. Playing a game with someone you will never meet for 100 of hours seems like a waste. However, playing a game for 100 hours with somebody you see at least once a month seems like a good deal. Friends doing something together and then spending time together. To me that is what a MMORPG should be...but it seems it doesn't =/

Whats so pathethic getting addicted to a mmporg? Its a hobby for many, they enjoy to play it. What is the amount of television a average person watches in the Us, 6 hours? I find it funny that people who watch six hours of tv a day are considered normal but a person playing a game for the same amount of time your considered a addict.

That's the only reason why I play is to play w/ friends. I have friends that live all over the country and this is a great way for ust to get together and hang out w/o having to buy expensive plane tickets.
