I have a Compaq Presario (In my signature that has a 2200+. Can I swap it out for a 2800+?
http://partsurfer.hp.com/cgi-bin/spi/main?sel_flg=partlist&HP_model=DA722AV&modname=Compaq+Presario+2100+notebook+PC+CTO+T2.1/2.2)&plist_styp=subcat&plist_sval=Processor
Not that I'd buy the part from HP. Can I fit a faster chip than the 2800+ in there?
Specs on the 2200+ that's already in there:
AMD Mobile Athlon XP 2200+ processor - 1.80GHz (256KB of internal L2 cache, 266MHz FSB, AMD PowerNow! technology)
HP/Compaq part number: 322322-001
I'm trying to meet the minimum systems requirements of the Sims2 without having to buy a new laptop for my wife. AS it is it keeps crashing. The onboard video is ATI Radeon IGP 320 128mb.
128 video ram minus 768mb total ram equals 640mb system ram.

Since the 2800+ is based on 266 MHz FSB, it SOUNDS like it should...
So those memory in your laptop are PC2100? It seems that you should be able to...

Do laptops use socketed CPU's? Never popped mine open, but it would make sense that they do.

There's also motherboard compatability to consider. Even if the socket is the same,(and it probably is)the bios may not be compatable with a newer processor. If it isn't, a bios update might fix that.

Maybe this version of the link (http://partsurfer.hp.com/cgi-bin/spi/main?sel_flg=partlist&HP_model=DA722AV&modname=Compaq+Presario+2100+notebook+PC+CTO+T2.1/2.2)&plist_styp=subcat&plist_sval=Processor) will work.

Thanks for bothering. The links on this forum don't stand out at all unless its an advertisment.

It sounds like it should be compatible... since this 2800+ is also 266 MHz-based...
