I was curious as to how difficult it is to swap hard drives. I know on HP/Compaqs, IBMs, and Gateways, it's just two screws and sliding out a tray. Is the 700m like this too? This is a sweet little laptop, but I'd like to get it with the tiniest drive they offer, then throw in the 120gig Seagate when it becomes available.

I'd also get it with the minimum RAM, then get a 512 or 1gig Crucial.

I come up with $1400 bucks for a 12" laptop w/ 1.8Ghz, 256MB, and 40 gig HD and a combo drive. Sweet.

Nevermind, I Google'd it and it looks even easier than replacing a Gateway HD.

I've done both, I find the DELL easier. This by no means means that the gateway is harder, just that it takes a few extra seconds.

The only thing harder about the Gateway was that the hard drive sled screws were in WAY too tight, and I stripped them out. Very frustrating.

Hmm, you might be right. I can't remember that far back. Heh, after ou unscrew them once you make sure to not leave them so tight!! :D

Damn right! When I put the 60gig in, I made it snug but not so snug that I'd have to shell out $70 if the 60gig dies and I have to buy a new hard drive.
