i'm looking for a fairly cheap receiver (no more than $200) that will do the job for the next 5 years. I mainly listen to music through headphones (Senn 212's) since I'm currently SOL on decent speakers (I got a crappy set of aiwa's from like 8 years ago that still work). My soundcard is in my profile, and I do do some gaming as well, but I'm not too concerned about that quality. I've heard good things about NAD (I think that's what the brand was) from my resident audio-phile in the dorms. Anyone else agree? Any other suggestions?

You might find some deals on ebay, like a harmon Kardon from their direct store with the full manufactured warranty. Or now is a good time to shop for last years models.

At Best Buy they had a Yamaha 5730 was marked for $150 for open box and currently there is a 30% off all open box items coupon on best buys website. So if my math is right $150 - 30% = $105. You could even get look for better models with that killer coupon or use the money you save to buy some bookshelfs.

yeah, i plan on buying some decent bookshelfs in the near future as well. Around $150 for those, I heard some Athena's that resident audio-phile had, and they were impressive. I might go a different route with that though, but I'm not sure yet. Any other suggestions for bookshelf's or receivers?

yeah I need a new receiver as well. Got rid of my logitechs and stole some little sony bookshelfs from the closet. They beat the crap out of my old speakers.

heads up on that onkyo sr-502. 150 BIN http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=39797&item=5774940237&rd=1

edit: no, that was the 302. HERE (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=39797&item=5774201175&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW) is the 502, 205 BIN

Athena AS-B1 and AS-B2's are killer.
Your best bet for an amp is to check out Harman Kardon's ebay store (http://stores.ebay.com/Harman-Audio_Harman-Kardon_W0QQcolZ2QQdirZQ2d1QQftidZ2QQtZkm) for a cheap AVR130/135/230/235. They ship direct from factory and you pay through their store. I bought 2 pairs of bookshelves from them and were extremely quick. I even had a missing part and they shipped out a new one, no questions asked.
