Time for a new router, I think

Well I have a linksys WRT54G. To be frank, I hate the thing. I primarily game and host games (custom games on warcraft 3). I must say I am quite dissapointed and frustrated with the router 80% of the time. It is a couple of years old, and was wondering if anyone knew what are some of the best, most dependable, routers out?

What exactly don't you like about it? Do you have it set up correctly? Do the problems go away when you take the router out of the loop (i.e. plug the comp into the modem)?

Yes once the router is out of the loop, the problems go away. Sometimes my internet will go very slow (and my games) and it turns out it's the router because I try to access the router (http://192.168.1.1) and it's VVERRYY slow to respond. Resetting the router usually fixes the problem for a little bit. It doesn't seem to be able to upload well, and sometimes when I am downloading (morpheus, bittorrent, etc..) it just dies, and there is no internet. I want something that can handle "hosting" well.

Hmmmm...sounds like you have bad hardware somewhere in your router. Have you tried switching ports on the router, etc.? Do you have it set up to do any kind of complicated filtering/forwarding that might stress it? Does everyone using the router get this problem?

As far as other routers...well, the WRT54G has kind of been the standard for a while now. What features are you looking for? I assume it needs to be wireless but do you use VPNs, WPA, WEP, etc.?

I don't use any of those features, all I care about is dependability. Maybe my router just needs to be replaced, but it seems like simply upload files stresses the router like it's the most complicated and demanding task. I'll switch ports and see if that helps.
