AMAZING LARRY

Anybody played the beta or joining the upcoming open beta? I'll definitely be purchasing when it's out, just wanted to see how many fellow sharky members are considering the same? The graphics are pretty amazing, though I'll probably want to upgrade my 6800 GT soon... not that I have the money for that yet. sigh.

http://www.lotro.com/index.php?page_id=94 - is the Open Beta signup link (I believe) and there's also a link on that page to preorder, and when the game is released it's only 9.99 a month, which I'll definitely be doing. Tough finding MMO's out there now for that cheap.

the LOTRO runs well and the graphics are not so bad!
and at low lvl, players always go solo, once higher , you pretty much need a party.
like many other MMO,we need pay more attention to it.:)

I'm tempted to try this, but last time I got hooked on an MMO I didn't see daylight for 2 months.

lol...

I was thinking about playing this, but after having player Asheron's Call and Dungeons and Dragons online for years (and I really feel like turbine drops the ball on older releases whenever they launch a new product), so I'm not so sure I want to invest any more time or effort into the company. :(

I am quite interested in hearing about this....

Impressions?

I am quiting EQ2 so I need a new drug of choice. I rarely play EQ2 as is, maybe an hour a week so its about time i just drop it.

I'm having an absolute blast with LOTRO.
I pre-ordered the game, then took advantage of the one-time $200 price for lifetime membership. (IE: I'll never have to pay a monthly fee). My highest level "Hero" charcter is 13. I've been spending all of my time as a Monster. I'm having a blast with that... and PvP hasn't even started yet.

From what I see on the website there's only 1 faction... see that is what makes games like WoW just freaking amazing. The war that wages between the Alliance and the Horde. The PVP is what hooks you into games like that. I bought Guild Wars a couple of months ago, installed it, played it for about an hour, max 1.5 hours and then I uninstalled it.

That's my view on MMOs, whatever suits you though, I would rather have 2 factions or even 3 in such a world.

EDIT: I was just going through the classes and races... the champion has fervor? Ain't that the same as the warrior in WoW? Rage? Don't know if other games already have this too, but it's pretty annoying to see the same thing in a supposedly very different game.

Historically MMO’s with PvP got brushed by the wayside or adapted to minimize the negative effects of PvP like pushing it into arenas and instances. BTW Guild Wars has one of the top PvP systems out there, it’s arena PvP which isn’t for everyone, but in practice most WoW PvP is arena style as well.

If you took away all the things WoW borrowed for Everquest and Warhammer you wouldn’t have much of a game left .

Turbine has definitely struggled since it made AC1, but they have bucked that trend with LoTRO. Unless there is a big surprise in the pipes it’s the MMO release of the year, including expansions like the Burning Crusades.

There are some issues of course, it’s a little on the small side has some minor issues with the models etc. It’s also a game where you need to buy into its very casual mostly PvE the playstyle. For PvE games it’s probably second only to EQ2 at the moment and has the added bonus of being new and fresh.

It's a fun game. But something about it didn't hold my attention. I guess mainly because it's a clone of a clone, and nothing new was really offered to the table besides new graphics / textures / and some gameplay tweaks that I wasn't interested in. For me, all the classes felt the same, but I know people who thought they felt totally different, so go figure.

yeah, me an a few buddies pre-ordered and played around, but I don't think any of us actually bought the retail version because it seemed a bit "bland"

Well, AC1 kept me for about 8 years, with its unique PVP system that was almost like a 3rd person FPS. I still have my acct, actually. (Morningthaw if that means anything to anyone)

I totally looked forward to AC2. However, it ran like garbage on my higher end PC and with all of the bugs I quit after 1.5 months and went back to AC for pvp...

DDO kept me for almost 8 months. I maxed my character in the first 3 weeks, if that. However, I powergamed the content in the first month and a half. I left after the lackluster content updates and the failed increase for level cap after 3 months. The first 4 months were all beta :)

WoW really did *nothing* for me. I never dug the graphics. Too... toonish for me. Not that AC1 has nice graphics now...

I can only *hope* LOTRO is what AC2 should have been - I mean it has the AC2 engine, which was WAY ahead of its time. I love big worlds, and I love PVP. I don't care so much for large battles, as I really like having all vs me and being able to pull it off against the odds.

DDO is a quality system, but really should not have been pushed as an MMO, because that is exactly what it is NOT. If you casually game DDO, and have time for the quests, its pretty fun, providing you do them 1-2 times each, and arent forced to grind them 6 times on each difficulty. :)

This option is for everyone, not just beta testers as far as I know. I didnt play beta but had this option. Didnt take it because MMOs usually last me about 1-2 years tops.

However, I did install it from a beta disc, so take that for what its worth.
