This is my first mod and I have no real idea of what I am doing. I started modding an old HP case several months ago and just recently picked up the project again. The plan as of right now is pretty basic, put in a window, add another fan, and give it a custom paint job. Heres what I have so far.

The original case:

After a bit of sanding:

Side panel marked out and half cut:

The front panel after some primer:

One of the new colors (a little bright I know but darn sexy):

What do you guys think? More updates soon.

Ohhhhhh I love that colour even more than kermit!

Seriously i really do like that colour, what is the colour code? What would look really groovy is matching fans and a cathode tube and lighting strips.

metal nail file should do the trick ;)

One question ... why codename sexytime ?

Yea, lots of filing to get those edges smooth.
To get that clean looking paint job make sure you do some wet sanding.
Then add some Clearcoat. That neon green should really standout.
I would go with some Red CC's and Red LED Fans. Would make a nice Contrast to the green.

First off thanks for all the tips.

The can says the color is 1932 Fluorescent Green. More info go here (http://rustoleum.com/product.asp?frm_product_id=37&SBL=1)

I used to get all the weird color spray paint I needed from places like Modelzone and Antics model shop when I lived in Kingston, so they are probably your best bet for finding something this bright, as I dont recall the local Robert Dyas carrying it.

I was planning on putting in a UVCC and some UV fans, what color I dont know. I was kinda thinking of green, but I really like the idea of red TAZTG.

As for why Sexytime? There was a commercial on TV for the Borat DVD while I was typing the first post, and I thought it was time to make this old HP case sexy...

With a title like that, I hope that Borat is predominantly featured somewhere; perhaps a silhouette on the side window? ;)

I like!

I finished cutting out and filing down the window and fan holes last night and should have a couple packages arriving today with some fans, cable sleeving, cold cathodes and window molding.

The painting has pretty much been finished for now. I want to give it a week or so to really dry out before I start wet sanding and applying clear coat. I'll add some pics when I get home from work tonight.

Cable sleeving - that'll be a great time!
God, I'm going to dread that when I get a new PSU. Hate sleeving! I guess it's just the removing of the molex connectors; the tool I have seems to get stuck in them and then I have to jimmie with the metal connectors inside them when I put the molexes back on. Just a pain.

Good luck to you, good sir! We'll all be anxious to see some new pics soon. ;)

Here is a pic of the PSU after sleeving:

Does it matter that this PSU has no -5v wire? This is the PSU I was using when this was my main system and it never had a problem...

I have cold cathodes to put in this case, and would like to make some sort of switch set up that doesnt plug into a pci expansion slot, but into a 5.25 bay. I have no idea how to wire the thing up, as the cathodes have a 12v inverter they plug into. Any ideas?

Should I just go from the molex to a switch to the inverter for the lights with the 12v wire and then back to the molex with the ground?

All of the CC's I have purchased came with a switch that was mountable anywhere. Just required a small hole drilled for the switch. I opted for fan controllers. Here's a nice one for a mere $15.00 http://www.crazypc.com/products/82973S.html

Finally after waiting for a week or so, the new hand riveter arrives and the case is starting to be reassembled. After looking at the case for a while I decided the CD storage tray in the top was absolutly useless for anything I would be doing and decided to cut a hole in it to mount a sound activated light controller from Antec, for now, and depending on how much I like the setup and what I may end up doing with the rig in terms of OC, I may just cut the whole area out and try to fit in a radiator for a small watercooling loop, if I can come up with something small that works efficviently enough. Also began wet sanding and clear coating on the rest of the pieces. Now stop reading my ramblings and look at the pretty pictures.

And off this particular topic I built a light controller to control the lights and fan lights in my main rig, and attempted to do some cable managment but wasn't very successful.

The clear coats have dried very nicely over the past day and a half so I reassembled the case and put the few compnents I have in. I am still unsure about what mobo, cpu, ram and video and if I want to watercool this or not. But heres what I have so far.

Are there any plans for painting the side panel? How about Green like the front? The Clear coat turned out nicely and good idea for the sound activated light up top.. G/J keep the picks and updates coming..
