Is there a way to jump start a laptop battery that seems to hold no charge (only lasts about 25 min or so max). I seem to read somewhere to if you short something in the contacts of the battery that it MIGHT work.

Any of you guys have any ideas?

Sounds like a myth to me. From what I know, if a battery is dead, it's dead. There are a lot of battery care guides around on the net, do a search and you'll find a ton of tips. You're probably out of luck with your current battery though.

Yea i thought if a battery is dead its just dead as well ...

Although if the charge has run down on a battery you can squeeze a few minutes more out of any battery by using a rubber on the contacts to clean deposits off, shaking it like hell and licking the terminals before re-inserting

If a battery is dead, it's dead. Lithium Ion batteries lose its ability to hold a charge as a function of use and time.

A battery discharges power through a chemical reaction. A battery gains charge by reversing that chemical reaction when you apply electrical current. Over time, that chemical reaction becomes less and less reversible. That is why it loses charge capacity over time.

This is the nature of Li-ion batteries. Do NOT try and short the contacts. Do NOT try and overcharge it. Do NOT try to modify the battery in any way. Seriously, just spend the $80 to buy a new battery if it really bothers you. $80 is a friggin bargain, because if ANYTHING goes wrong with your attempts to short the contacts, etc, it will cause a LOT more damage than $80 can fix.

Actually, if it is a ni-cd, you might be able to revive it to a useable state:

A laptop battery will be Li-ion. Just buy a new one.
