Is there a setting to set the network timeout?

I've never really had this problem before, but computers are dropping off the network and losing their mapped drives (red X), which in turn causes heart aches with some programs.

Is there a setting to set that timeout to unlimited? Or is it a different problem completely?

Thx!

Typically an OS will close an idle connection after a period of time. It varies depending on the operating systems involved. In Windows a red X indicates that the connection is closed. Accessing the resource automatically re-establishes the connection. The resource does not need to be re-mapped if it was mapped as a persistent connection. I've not heard of a program having issues with this behavior. What programs are giving you trouble? If they are database programs, the timeout is controllable from the SQL script.

May be the NICs are set to power save and they are going to sleep.

Try to uncheck their Power Save.

Turned out it was the Power Save option.. sigh. Never even thought of it.

Thanks!

The program were using is a proprietary one that is extremely finicky. Ok it's a piece of junk. Although we don't have a choice but to use it. Even changing the output/input paths from its original install will screw it up 90% of the time.
