As you probably know, I do the news on SharkyGames and SharkyExtreme. If you have a specific product, company, or game you'd like to know more about, drop me a line and I'll see what I can dig up!

Now that you mention it, Aurora, I was wondering if you can do something about those new ATA RAID cards that are out. I hear some people on the forums saying they give a lot of performance. I wanted to know what the benefits and consequences are of these cards, as well as the prices and companies that make them. If the performance is as good as I hear, it sounds like a product I'd be very interested in. Thanks for any info you can give.

I got a few Cut'n pastes If you care to check up on this stuff...

ZDNET has a story about the new Opto-chip which can supposedly transfer data at 100GB per second. Yes, gigaBYTES. A two-hour digital movie could download in 1/20th of a second. The only problem is making the rest of the computer fast enough to take advantage of it. " The researchers are being published today in Science magazine and claim that the U.S. military will be using this as early as next summer. However, I think this is going to be another case of wait-and-see - the technology sounds a little too good - "spray on" application and such.

University of Illinois having come up with a method to produce atomic-scale TeraHertz switches. It's possible that when attached to specifically designed molecules, these puppies would act like transistors that can switch at 100 trillion times a second. Kind of throws MHz right out the window, don't it?

"The April issue of Wired interviews Stuart Parkin, an IBM scientist developing MRAM; Non-volatile, fast, durable, and cheap. It should be great in an MP3 player, and according to the article, could make all of our computers instant-on! Problem is, five years is a long time to wait..."

"Some scientists at Naval Research Laboratory have developed a new super disk. Nando Times has an article about it. I want a storage device like this, but will we ever see them come into production... " "We anticipate we can put 400 gigabits in a square inch," said solid state physicist Gary Prinz of the Naval Research Laboratory, which has just contracted with a pioneering Minnesota firm to move the technology from the lab to the production line. "

"I saw a cool link over at HardOCP about supercooling atoms with lasers. It's a little technical and hard to read, but I though the sharky community might be interested. Who knows, with this technology, maybe I'll be able to overclock my p2-266 to 1 GHz after all."

Hi.

How do you turn Email notification on? That's the only thing I miss about the old Delphi Forum. I don't miss it's agonizing slowness though!!

Someone else posted about ATA Raid. I'd like to see something on that too.

I'm not sure if it is possible to have the email notification like the Delphi service (I personally love it too!), but it definitely works for a thread that you start. It is defined in your profile, near the bottom I believe.
