Well, what your motherboard supports in terms of memory is really motherboard specific. They are not all the same. You didn't mention what motherboard you ordered with your P3. I would look at the manufacturer's website to get the lowdown on the board.

The 'PC' standard in memory is backwards compatable. If your motherboard is compatable with PC133, then you can use PC100 or PC66 in addition to PC133. However, if you were to put in faster memory, it would only run at 133MHz.
DDR memory may be different, however. It may only be forwards compatible. In other words, you will probably not be able to use DDR memory in your motherboard (not that you'd find any, though... noone sells it in for desktops).

I'm almost certain that DDR memory uses a different socket than PC133/100 memory. I think it's a 184 pin package rather than a 168 pin. Also, DDR memory would require completely different controlling hardware that could read and write data on the rising and falling edge of the clock. Basically I'm fairly certain that your mobo will not support DDR.

PC133 memory can be used on a slower motherboard but slower memory can't be used on a fast motherboard with PC133. Not a good idea to try and mix.

So, if i had some PC200 memory it would work with my 133 mhz bus mobo? is that what you sayin?

Actually, the idea behind backward compatability is that it can. The only thing you have to realize is that putting some PC66 or PC100 memory in a PC133 motherboard is that the motherboard will have to step down to the slower speed. Likewise, PC133 memory in a PC100 motherboard will step itself down.

It may or may not. It depends on if DDR memory has the same backwards compatibility as its previous versions.

I doubt it will work. SD-RAM needs 3.3V, DDR-SDRAM needs 2.5V ...
