Abit K7 T-Raid VS Asus A7V

I just bought the Abit board based on Anand
Tech's editors choice award... my original
choice was the Asus A7V. How many of you
think I should take it back and get the Asus?
(It hasn't been opened yet and they cost the same $$)

I say take another look at each mb's features and decide witch one would suite you better.

I dont think that either motherboard has enough features to totally kill the other. They both had good reviews and are made by respecable company's. I would stick with the one you have now. Enjoy!

Both boards are very nice. I have heard people complaining about both, but the problems I have heard have mostly been user error and bios config issues. In my opinion ABIT is nice but its no SUS..

I have built a system with each of these boards. Both are excellent choices.

The ASUS A7V did have a problem setting the proper CPU voltage, and this caused a few minutes of head scratching when windows wouldn't run. The A7V "AUTO" selected 1.35v for a TBIRD 700. After setting the voltage manually, the system worked great.

The ABIT KT7-RAID is a great overclocker. The Duron 600 on this system runs at 950MHz. The only issue I have with this board is a problem with my ethernet card. There seems to be a conflict (not shown in windows) between the m-board and the ethernet. Unplugging and re-inserting the 10-base-t connector solves the problem, but this must be repeated at each reboot.

I don't think you can go wrong with either of these m-boards.

They are both great boards. Watch out for duron 600 chips because initial bios revisions on the KT7 fail to recognize the voltage correctly. I bought the abit because it has 6PCI slots and an ISA vs. 5 PCI and a worthless CNR. Raid is nice but not necessary and will take some time to setup properly. Go to each manufacturers' website and look at the newsgroups to see the problems that people have had. Easiest way to see what you will have to deal with.

Some of the problems arising from the ABIT boards have been with the RAID versions. I haven't had any problems with my non-RAID after I got my BIOS settings right. I hate integrated audio and CNR so I chose the KT7, but most of it is just preference.

I got the Asus A7V mobo, and I think its a great board, but the Abit has so much more stuff. They perform almost the same so I would keep the Abit.

I have an Abit KT7-RAID, and the thing rocks like all hell. It is sweet, I wouldn't trade it for an Asus anyday of the week. For one thing...no onboard sound, no AMR riser....nothing but what you need. Another thing, the space around the socket is alot more open than the comparable Asus...so...go figure.

ASUS A7V is what i have now. IT SUCKS.
Had to flash bios just to get win 2k to install, and now I have disappearing Hard disk syndrome. Returning this piece of junk. Will buy ABIT KT7. How do you like it so far?

I don't know what that last post was all about... anyway, I have an A7V and haven' really had any problems. You do have to get a bios update to use yuor cd-rom in win 2k, but it wasn't really any big deal. The two things that I think that the abit has over the asus is raid, which most will never use, and the softbios, no jumpers or dip switches would be nice if you are into overclocking.

as for me, i have a dissappearing Sound Blaster Live syndrome...this ASUS A7V IS nice, but, im really frustrated when this damn card works when it wants to on this mobo... im returning the A7V and getting an ABIT tomorrow...just to see.... Abit KT7 (non raid if they got it, no need for RAID)

I had the same question for the longest time...I kept going from one to the other:

ASUS - more stable (barely)

ABIT - easier to use/setup/overclock W/RAID with less hassles.

I am going with the Abit board.

thanks for all your input. I'm happy to say I kept the Abit KT7 Raid and it ROCKS!!!

Very stable,you should see it running this
IBM GXP 75 ata 100 30 gig.

The entire system went together painlessly.
