speakers that sound good

I was wondering what speakers you guys would pick (preferably 200 or under) that just sound good? I'm not talking about oh this is great they blow my ear drums out, I don't care about that. I usually listen to stuff for ambience while I'm writing/doing homework/etc. and I just care about the sound quality, not which one can get so loud it will shake my pictures to an off center angle.

Sum it up: Which sound the best, not which get the loudest or such.

The A/L 641s were very highly rated for musical accuracy, and you can get a set for $197, free ground shipping from 2buystore.com. Thats a great deal.

If your not a huge bass freak, the Promedia 2.1s have the same satellites as the 4.1s (just a smaller sub) and are about $180, free 3 day shipping from Newegg. Good power.

3dsoundsurge seems to like the musicality of the Z560s although most articles i come across say things like "brute force" and "thumper" so this may not be for you.

Well I would say the promedias 4.1. I know they are $300 but considering the fact that speakers last a long time, you don't have to upgrade them for a while. With that in mind spend some more and get speakers you really like!

Logitech Z560s. $200 list, available for $150 or less online...I bought mine for $121.86 shipped from Dell.

Reviews say they're as good, some say better, some say worse than the Klipsch 4.1s. I'm really happy with them..for the price, they can't be beat.

of course im gonna have to go with the logitech z-560's. they are excellent speakers that sound nice. and even though you said that you dont want anything to blow your ears, how many people say that and then wish they got speakers they could have cranked at least a few times? come one man, i know you want those speakers!!! go to www.provantange.com (http://www.provantange.com) and get them for like 130 bucks.

I'm very fond of my Klipsch 4.1, but they WERE $300. if you think you are gonna spend another $100 and have them change your life, yer wrong, but they are very nice. try the z560's, but be warrned, from what i've heard and read, the sub is a little over powering. I read a very in depth review of them and 3 other 4.1 sets, (not the klipsch) and they won flat out. however, they weren't any 400 watts RMS, the amp in the sub can MAYBE sustain CLOSE to 200 watts.. each satalite is rated at 15 according to the sticer on the driver rather than the 53 that logitech claims. the sub can do around 60 to 80, but logitec said 200 some, so what ever. You might just get some nice head phones.. if you can, listen to stuff before you buy it.

Sub driver is rated at 100 watts. I wonder if Dan will ever do an in depth of the Klipsch systems. It would be interesting to find out their real RMS rating, since Klipsch doesnt even claim the 400 watts as RMS, just peak power.
