MP3 CD player - Rio Volt?

Ok, I'm thinking about buying a MP3 CD player and was hoping for some input. I'll probably use it in the car and at work if everything works well.

Many people recommend the Rio Volt which seems to work well for most people. I'm having trouble finding a DC car adapter that would work with it (4.5V at 5W) but I'm sure its out there.

Comments on the Rio Volt or another Mp3 CD player?

The only ones I know of (at a decent price) are the Rio Volt and something by Panasonic.

I've never actually held the panasonic one, so I don't know !@#$ about it, but I've used a Rio Volt before...

It's not too heavy compared to a normal cd player, but it's bulky as !@#$. It's at least an inch larger in diameter than a cd player, and it's about an inch thick.

Luckily, it comes with a little bag, so it really is portable, even though it won't fit in your pocket like a normal cd player would.

I've been thinking about buying one, but they're kind of expensive.

The only good MP3/CD player made is the Pine D'music. The Rio Volt bites. Doesn't work as it's supposed to, and even worse, it's got the feeling of a light, plastic-y feeling (sorry, ripped from Maximum PC). However, it's the second CD player to have and LCD screen on it.

I have a Rio Volt, and it's a very nice CD player.

It has decent skip protection, but not great. You can't jog with it, but it didn't skip once all the way from Missouri to Georgia and back (in the car).

It's the best MP3 player you can get, so buy it!

I've heard the Rio Volt used to not work very good, but it has updated firmware now and it works very good for me.

Perhaps Maximum PC tested the Rio Volt when it had bad firmware, because what you said was completely false.

Also, I don't think it feels light or plastic-y. I like the way it looks and feels.

Well, that's what I heard from "you-know-who". Quite often, they're right. You sure that the latest firmware fixes it (I know how it works: Burn it on CD and then play it on the player. I like that http://www.sharkyforums.com/ubb/biggrin.gif)? I first wanted to get this, but after the negative feedback that I've heard from MPC, I dissolved that thought immediately.

Pine D'music, huh...never heard of that one. I'll have to look at it.

I thought one of the best and most promising features of the Rio Volt was that you could flash an update to it. This way, new features could be added/fixed increasing the value AFTER I buy the product. That doesn't happen very often in the electronics industry.

Could someone explain the necessary file hierarchy for one of these type players?

I have ~20 discs full of old phish shows I burned to clean off my expansive 6 GB drive. The file are in folders, and sometimes subfolders. Would I be able to access them?

well i got the napa mp3-cd player and works a treat comes with remote and charge and playes vcd,s rigged up to me telly and works fine and i put it on me old car kit from me cd player and works fine has a 45sec jog on it it is a litle bit bigger than a normal player but i use it in me truck when i go away save swapping the cd,s all the time http://www.sharkyforums.com/ubb/smile.gif

my friend got a riovolt off the net and its sooooo nice

yeah its a little big, but the mp3 cd thing is good....u would switch cds a few times if u have a HUGE mp3 collection and a lot of time to listen to music

for normal cds i still like my sony g protection though

I don't know what you guys are arguing about. The TDK Mojo kicked the asses out of everyone in the mp3-cd player industry. The stuff from Pine and Dlink were among the first ones to come out, and then the Rio Volt had a good ID3 tag display, but in the end it was the Mojo that ruled. The philips expanium was a tad expensive...
All in all, forget every other brand. The king is the Mojo

The Rio Volt will navigate nested folders just fine. You can see "where you are going" on the display.

I just updated my firmware to the new 2.01 without a problem.

You can pick them up now at Costco for pretty cheap.

The RioVolt is amazing.
I've had one for about 3 months now, and have never had a problem with it. Plays anything I throw at it, even stuff that wont play in my DVD player that supports MP3 CDs.

One MAJOR reason to get the RioVolt is the firmware upgrades. If a new music format comes out or they want to add a feature, you just download an update, burn it on a CD-RW, pop it in and it updates itself.
Very cool stuff.
