What prog for editing avi's and mpgs?

Hi, Whats a good proggie for editing avi's mpegs and other types of movie formates? I want to be able to at least save the individual frames as a single image. But would like to be able to adjust the color saturation, brightness, and other filtering.

Adobe Premier is quite good at what you are talking about.
