MSCDEX is old dos crap so don't worry about it. Secondly you have to install ASPI in win2k as it does not include it natively.

ASPIINST.EXE (http://support.tekramusa.com/support2.nsf/0/53e0e85676ef7ddb88256903006abede/$FILE/aspiinst.exe) installs a base version of ASPI so you can update.

ASPI32.EXE (ftp://ftp.adaptec.digisle.net/software_pc/aspi/aspi32.exe) updates to the latest version.

ASPICHK.EXE (ftp://ftp.adaptec.digisle.net/software_pc/aspi/aspichk.exe) verifies that ASPI is properly installed and what version is installed. This is not essential but should be run after the above to verify.

Thats all it should take to get it up and running in ASPI mode (which is the best).

Though I really recommend going to The Coaster Factory (http://www.ping.be/satcp) and reading his tutorial on Exact Audio Copy and LAME located in the tutorials section. Get EAC Prebeta 7 from EAC Prebeta 7 (http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/eac09pb7.zip) and theLAME 3.87MMX Encoder Executable (http://www.chat.ru/~dkutsanov/lame387mmx.zip).

Those two together give you much more exact rips of audio, and much better sounding MP3 files. But I will say that it can be more difficult to setup, but if you follow TCF's tutorials step-by-step and follow directions for the LAME executable and use the addition command line options of "-b256 -k -h -ms" you will get the best MP3's possible.

I don't like risk. That's why I have chose to be a 'never was' instead of risk being a 'has been'.
