How to log-on AOL using Dial-Up Networking?

Hi, this is Michael from MD again. Yet another question!

I use AOL 5.0 - and my OS is Windows 98. How can I use/create Dial-Up Networking to logon to AOL? Is it possible? I've heard there are benefits as far as setting it up..

PLUS I REALLY want that little dial-up net icon of the little computers in my tray, where you can hold the mouse over it and tells you how much you're transmiting up/down.. http://www.sharkyforums.com/ubb/smile.gif

I don't think this is possible. I've never talked to an AOL user that did this, unless they had a separate ISP and were just connecting to AOL by TCP/IP.

I dont think this is possible. Besides, AOL is junk, who would want to see nothing being transfered anyway?

AOL uses their own winsock and dialer if you are modem bound. Windows cannot emulate this format, as far as I have heard.

There is an option to connect via TCP/IP if you are wanting to use it over say, DSL or cable, or (God forbid you take it to work) a LAN connection.

basically stating that AOL is using it's own DUN/Winsock, and the MS has no control over it.
