d-link firewire, sony and xp

i recently upgraded to xp and now my computer wont recognize the camera.

d-link told me tonight that their card has a lot of problems with sony and it was only luck that it worked before i installed xp.

i cant figure it out. i've tried a few different drivers, but its almost impossible to work around the automatic driver install that xp performs. it automatically installs a driver from the card, a t.i. driver. i know that xp has a couple sony driver in it, one of them didn't work. two other's that showed up in the device manager before are now eluding me.

what should i do? buy a new card? go back to 2k first? does anyone have any knowledge of this specific problem?

does anyone know how to manually pick the drivers you want? or if you can install 2k service packs on xp?
