8800GTS in a Shuttle SN25P
Well it works...err worked.
The Shuttle Powersupplies are really good, so I had no doubts that the 350W would power it. It fit a little tight, but it fit.
Ran hot, but once I upped the fan speed a bit it was comfortably warm with a high 50s idle, and load in the 60s-low 70s...not bad for a small case.
It all worked great, except:
-the sticker on the 8800gts fan came off and got stuck in the fan, so that was a scare.
-card died within 1 or 2 hours :(
it didnt work in my system or any other ones, so the card's definitely dead :(
bad thing is i'm on a military deployment so it'll take a few weeks for me to get a replacement from newegg
performance wise it was good. Played Quake4 and Prey maxed out (1280x1024 monitor resolution's limited), 16x af, 16x aa, max shadows, etc...
not a hitch anywhere. Medieval 2 didn't like max details though, was a bit choppy, so I settled for semi maxed.
So right now I'm back to using my 7900GT which surprisingly handles all the games almost as well at my resolution. Quake 4 at max detail (4x AA, 16x AF) looks 95% as good and is just as smooth...same with Prey. Medieval 2 runs great too with 4x AA, low shadows, everything else maxed.
Though to make up for the speed difference, I finally had the balls to O/C my 7900GT...and man O/C is good with this one. Bumped GPU from 500 to 515( ok I guess), and memory 750 to 900( ) and life is good.
well I still can't wait for my new 8800GTS to come back, but unfortunately it'll probly get here after all the holidays are over. But oh well, I've found new life in my 7900GT which was still plenty fast to begin with, but even better now.
